Suzuki Motor Corporation is preparing to enter Japan’s passenger kei-EV segment with its all-new electric minicar. The company will begin sales of the new model in Japan from November 16, 2026, marking Suzuki’s first passenger mini-EV. The Suzuki e-SKY Mini EV has been developed around the “Easy to Switch” concept, aiming to make the transition from petrol-powered cars to electric mobility simpler for everyday users.
Along with familiar, user-friendly features, the new EV promises the quiet operation and smooth acceleration associated with electric powertrains. Suzuki is also targeting affordability, positioning the e-SKY as a strong competitor in Japan’s growing kei-EV market.

What Is the Suzuki e-SKY?
The Suzuki e-SKY is a new Japanese kei-class electric passenger vehicle with a 26 kWh LFP battery, a claimed 310 km WLTC range, and 97 Wh/km AC energy consumption. Prices start at ¥2.12 million before subsidies.
Affordable Electric Kei Car
The Suzuki e-SKY Mini EV has been designed to compete aggressively on price with models such as the Nissan Sakura and BYD’s Racco mini EV. The built-to-order A variant starts at ¥2.12 million, including tax, while higher G and X variants cost up to ¥2.79 million.
Eligible buyers can receive a ¥568,000 national Clean Energy Vehicle (CEV) subsidy. This reduces the effective starting price to approximately ¥1.55 million, or around $10,120.
Suzuki is targeting monthly sales of 1,000 units, highlighting its expectations for demand in Japan’s compact electric-car market.
310 Km Range From a 26 kWh Battery
The Suzuki e-SKY Mini EV uses a dedicated HEARTECT-e EV platform with an integrated eAxle and regenerative braking system. Its 26 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery is supplied by BYD’s battery unit, helping Suzuki control production costs.
Key highlights include:
- Battery: 26 kWh LFP
- Range: Up to 310 km under Japan’s WLTC standard
- Energy consumption: 97 Wh/km or 11.92 km/kWh
- Minimum turning radius: 4.4 metres
- Dimensions: 3,395 mm long and 1,475 mm wide
- Target sales: 1,000 units per month
The 97 Wh/km efficiency figure is claimed to be class-leading, while the compact dimensions comply with Japan’s strict kei-car regulations. The 4.4-meter turning radius should also make the EV particularly suited to narrow urban streets and crowded parking areas.
Built Around Suzuki’s Lightweight EV Philosophy
Suzuki has developed the e-SKY according to its “Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi” philosophy, which translates broadly to Smaller, Fewer, Lighter, Shorter and Beauty. The approach combines weight reduction, efficient engineering and compact packaging with a familiar yet modern exterior.
The EV’s quietness, smooth acceleration and regenerative braking are intended to offer the benefits of electric driving without making the transition complicated for conventional petrol-car users.
Overseas Expansion Could Follow
The Japanese launch is expected to be the first step in a wider expansion. Suzuki is reportedly considering overseas markets, including Europe and the UK, for 2027.
However, India may receive a larger, reengineered electric model rather than the Japanese kei-specification vehicle. A future India-focused EV could draw inspiration from Suzuki’s eWX concept and feature a larger battery pack suited to local requirements.
With a low entry price, strong efficiency and urban-friendly dimensions, the Suzuki e-SKY Mini EV gives Suzuki a significant new presence in Japan’s rapidly developing electric kei-car segment.
