Ultraviolette Automotive will establish a new electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, with a phased investment of ₹779 crore, approximately $82 million, over the next four to five years. Named the BIGGA Factory, short for “Big Global Ambition,” the project marks the company’s planned transition from a niche performance motorcycle maker to a large-scale electric mobility manufacturer. Where Will the New Factory Be Located?
The Ultraviolette EV Factory in Hosur will be developed at SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri. Its location places Ultraviolette near established electric two-wheeler manufacturers, including Ather Energy and Ola Electric, while providing access to the concentrated automotive supplier network across the Hosur-Chennai industrial corridor.
The facility will complement, rather than replace, Ultraviolette’s existing mother plant and manufacturing infrastructure in Jigani, Bengaluru. This dual-footprint strategy is expected to simplify sourcing, production, and distribution as domestic and export volumes rise.
Capacity to Reach Five Lakh Vehicles
Phase 1 of the Ultraviolette EV Factory in Hosur will have annual capacity for 2.5 lakh electric two-wheelers. Construction is expected to conclude by the first quarter of 2027, with operations targeted to begin within six to eight months. Phase 2, planned after 2029, could double annual capacity to five lakh units.
The expansion will primarily support mass production of the Tesseract, Ultraviolette’s anticipated mass-market electric scooter. Flexible assembly lines will also manufacture performance motorcycles such as the F77 and X-47, along with future cruiser, street, and crossover models.
Thousands of New Jobs Expected
The Ultraviolette EV Factory in Hosur is projected to generate nearly 2,000 direct jobs in Phase 1. Employment could expand to between 4,000 and 5,000 direct positions during Phase 2, while the broader regional ecosystem may gain more than 10,000 indirect opportunities.
Local Supply Chain, Global Ambitions
More than 90% of Ultraviolette’s components are already localized, including battery packs, motors, and chargers developed in-house. Only battery cells and specialized magnets are currently imported, giving the company a strong domestic manufacturing base.
The new Hosur factory will also underpin international growth. Ultraviolette currently exports high-performance electric two-wheelers to 19 European markets, including Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. Exports are expected to represent about 15% of the facility’s initial production, increasing to 20–25% by 2030. The investment positions Hosur as an increasingly important major hub for India’s electric mobility and advanced manufacturing ambitions.
