Telangana has marked a significant milestone in India’s clean mobility journey with the launch of Ethanol-based EV charging technology, an innovative solution designed to charge electric vehicles without relying on the conventional electricity grid. Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy introduced the breakthrough alongside KETO Motors Limited’s first commercial 9-meter electric bus in Hyderabad, describing the innovation as one of the world’s most significant green energy products.
The new charging system is expected to strengthen India’s transition towards sustainable transportation while supporting energy security, reducing petroleum imports, and creating new opportunities for farmers through increased ethanol demand.
A New Era of Off-Grid EV Charging
The newly launched Ethanol-based EV charging technology enables rapid DC fast charging of electric vehicles using bioethanol instead of traditional grid electricity. The mobile charging unit delivers up to 150 kW of charging power and is mounted on specially designed vehicles, allowing it to provide temporary charging infrastructure wherever required.
This grid-independent solution is particularly useful for remote regions, highways, construction sites, large public events, and locations where permanent charging infrastructure has not yet been established.
Supporting Farmers and India’s Green Energy Goals
Speaking at the inauguration, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy said the technology promotes green energy while keeping farmers’ interests at its core. By utilizing bioethanol such as E100 or E85, the initiative creates additional market demand for agricultural produce used in ethanol production, generating greater value for farmers.
The minister emphasized that reducing dependence on conventional electricity and imported petroleum aligns with India’s long-term vision of achieving energy security, protecting the environment, and improving public health. He also encouraged citizens to adopt electric vehicles to accelerate the country’s clean mobility transition.
KETO Motors Launches 9-Metre Electric Bus
During the event, KETO Motors Limited also unveiled its first commercial electric bus in the nine-meter category. According to Director Venkatesh Challa, the bus features comfortable pushback seating for 35 passengers and is primarily designed for employee transportation services for leading companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Capgemini.
The company also signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during the launch, reflecting its plans to expand its presence in India’s growing electric mobility sector.
