Swiggy is bringing electric mobility into its delivery workforce as quick-commerce operators look for alternatives to petrol-powered two-wheelers. The company has introduced battery-swapping facilities at Instamart pods across 25 locations and is adding electric two-wheeler rentals at these order-collection points. Announced on November 4, 2026, during its EV Mobility Conclave, the initiative aims to make last-mile deliveries more convenient and affordable. As Swiggy EV Battery Swapping Launches across these locations, riders could spend less time searching for charging infrastructure and more time completing orders. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari attended the event, highlighting cleaner transport and collaboration.
What Has Swiggy Launched?
Swiggy has launched battery-swapping stations at 25 Instamart pod locations and is introducing EV rentals at the same order-pickup hubs. Riders can rent electric two-wheelers and swap compatible batteries without separate trips. Swiggy says partners may visit a pod roughly 20 times on a busy day.

Key Highlights of the Instamart EV Initiative
- 25 locations: Battery-swapping stations launched at Instamart pods.
- On-site rentals: Delivery partners can collect rental EVs where they pick up orders.
- Less downtime: Swapping reduces charging stops.
- Rider-focused payments: A rider described deductions from payouts.
- Industry support: Industry stakeholders attended.
Why Bring Battery Swapping Inside Instamart Pods?
Instamart pods are neighborhood order-collection centers. Swiggy estimates that a delivery partner visits one around 20 times on a busy day. Locating EV services at these existing touchpoints reduces the need for detours to separate charging stations or vehicle collection centres.
Instead of waiting for a battery to recharge, an eligible rider can exchange it for a charged, compatible battery. Availability depends on the vehicle, operator and station arrangements, including battery compatibility and operating hours at individual operational Instamart pods. That matters in time-sensitive quick commerce.
Potential benefits include fewer interruptions and less petrol dependence. Actual savings will depend on rental terms, swapping fees, distance travelled, and individual delivery demand.
EV Rentals Aim to Remove the Ownership Barrier
Electric scooters require upfront spending. Swiggy’s rental option offers another route: eligible delivery partners can access an EV for work without necessarily purchasing one. Riders can collect vehicles and orders together.
Umesh, an EV delivery partner, described renting through the Swiggy app, with charges deducted from his payouts based on his preference. Pod swapping helped him use working hours effectively.
Bounce CTO Varun Agni noted some riders lack vehicles. Affordable rentals combined with accessible swapping infrastructure, he said, can reduce the time, effort and expense of getting started.
Yulu and Yuma Partnerships Add Practical Benefits
The latest rollout builds on Instamart’s existing electric-mobility collaborations. Under an earlier program with Yulu, participating delivery partners received rental cashback incentives that reduced rental expenses by up to 30%, according to the company. These savings are not guaranteed for every participating rider.
Yuma Energy has also worked with Instamart to install swapping infrastructure near delivery hubs. Yuma says a battery exchange can take under two minutes at its facilities. Earlier estimates suggested nearby stations could save high-mileage riders up to an hour daily, but this has not been verified for the 25-location rollout.
Gadkari Calls for Affordable, Cleaner Deliveries
Addressing the conclave, Nitin Gadkari stressed that clean, efficient and affordable transport matters for India’s growth. He welcomed efforts to help delivery partners move to electric vehicles, citing potential benefits for workers’ incomes, cities and the environment. He urged continued government-industry cooperation across India.
Swiggy co-founder and Group CEO Sriharsha Majety said the transition should fit naturally into delivery partners’ everyday routines. He emphasized removing practical obstacles.
Corporate Affairs Head Neha Singhvi identified affordable financing, dependable charging and swapping, and supportive policies as essential enablers beyond any single delivery platform.
EV Mobility Conclave Recognises Partners and Riders
The conclave gathered manufacturers, rental firms, swapping operators, financiers and riders. Organizations recognized included Indofast Energy, Yulu, Bounce Daily, RIDEV, Baaz Bikes, Motovolt, Shadowfax, BGauss Auto, Veelo Mobility, Hala Mobility and Yuma Energy.
Swiggy also honored delivery partners Sajan Lal, Kamal Kumar, Avanish, Sandeep Gupta, Vijay, Ritik and Khurshid for their contribution to the electric-delivery ecosystem.
What This Means for India’s Last-Mile EV Market
Swiggy EV Battery Swapping Launches at a time when quick-commerce platforms face pressure to make deliveries efficient while reducing transport emissions. Integrating rentals and swapping into hubs could support fleet electrification.
However, the rollout’s long-term impact will depend on station uptime, compatible vehicle availability, transparent rider costs, and expansion beyond the initial locations. Swiggy has not detailed a wider rollout timetable in the announcement.
Ultimately, Swiggy EV Battery Swapping Launches as more than an infrastructure update: it tests whether making electric mobility convenient at the point of work can accelerate voluntary EV adoption among India’s delivery partners.
