Octillion opens its 3rd Manufacturing Plant in Halol, Gujarat, strengthening India’s electric vehicle (EV) battery supply chain. The company converted an empty structure into an operational battery manufacturing site in less than eight months.
The facility covers more than 13,000 square metres and adds over 3 GWh of battery capacity. At full production, it will manufacture more than 48,000 battery systems annually for passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, and buses.
India Battery Production Gets a Boost
With the Gujarat facility and its two existing Indian plants combined, Octillion expects to produce more than 150,000 battery systems, representing approximately 9 GWh of battery capacity.
“India is one of the most important growth markets in the global transition to electric mobility,” said Paul Beach, Global President of Octillion Power Systems. He said the rapid completion demonstrated execution speed while maintaining quality standards.
EV Sales Surge Across Cars, Buses and Trucks
According to JMK Research, India’s EV sales increased by 43% year over year in the first half of 2026, exceeding 1.54 million units and pushing EV penetration above 11%. Electric passenger-car sales jumped 83%, while electric-bus sales rose 42%, supported by PM E-Bus Sewa and PM E-DRIVE. Electric truck sales recorded more than 300% year-over-year growth as fleets pursue lower emissions and operating costs.
India targets 30% EVs in private cars, 70% in commercial vehicles, 40% in buses and 80% in two- and three-wheelers by 2030.
Building a More Resilient EV Supply Chain
India remains heavily dependent on imported lithium, cobalt, and nickel, while localization of high-value components remains below 20% for many manufacturers, according to the International Institute for Sustainable Development. The National Critical Minerals Mission and zero customs duties on 25 critical minerals aim to strengthen the value chain.
