Toyota has officially unveiled the New 2027 Toyota Highlander, marking a historic shift for one of its most popular SUVs. For the first time in 25 years, the Highlander nameplate transitions to a fully electric vehicle. This fifth-generation model is not only Toyota’s first three-row electric SUV in the United States but also the first EV Highlander to be built in America. Production will take place at Toyota’s Georgetown, Kentucky, plant, with battery modules sourced from its new North Carolina facility. Sales are expected to begin in late 2026, with pricing likely starting in the mid-$50,000 range.
Performance, Power & Driving Range
The New 2027 Toyota Highlander offers two battery options and multiple drivetrain configurations to suit different driving needs.
The standard 77.0 kWh battery is available with both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The FWD version produces 221 horsepower and delivers an estimated 287 miles (around 462 km) of range. The AWD version increases power to 338 horsepower, with a slightly lower range of approximately 270 miles (435 km).

For those seeking maximum range, Toyota offers a larger 95.8 kWh battery—the biggest EV battery the brand has introduced to date. Available exclusively with AWD, this version produces 338 horsepower and offers up to 320 miles (around 515 km) of driving range.
Fast Charging & Advanced Capability
Equipped with the North American Charging System (NACS) port, the SUV supports fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes under ideal conditions. An 11 kW AC onboard charger comes standard.
A standout feature is Toyota’s first U.S. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system, allowing the Highlander EV to power external devices or even serve as a backup power source during emergencies.
Bigger, Bolder & More Spacious
Built on a modified TNGA-K platform, the SUV features an 8-inch longer wheelbase, making it wider and nearly four inches longer than the previous model, though slightly lower in height. The design is sharper and more upright, highlighted by a “Hammerhead” front fascia and a full-width LED light bar.
Inside, the cabin is more spacious—especially in the third row. The SUV seats up to seven passengers, with standard second-row captain’s chairs for six-passenger seating and an optional bench seat. Cargo capacity stands at 15.9 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 45.6 cubic feet when folded flat.
Premium Technology & Comfort
The New 2027 Toyota Highlander comes packed with modern technology, including a 14-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and built-in navigation. All trims feature SofTex synthetic leather, 64-color ambient lighting, and an optional panoramic glass roof.
Available in XLE and Limited trims, the New 2027 Toyota Highlander represents a bold new chapter—combining practicality, performance, and cutting-edge electric innovation in a family-friendly three-row SUV.
