“Musashi Starts Production of Electric 2-Wheelers’ e-axles in India” – a milestone that’s set to reshape the future of urban mobility. As Musashi Seimitsu Industry Co. kicks off mass production at its advanced Bangalore facility, the move signals a powerful shift in India’s rapidly growing EV ecosystem. This strategic leap not only strengthens local manufacturing but also hints at a new wave of high-performance electric scooters. What’s driving this bold expansion — and what does it mean for India’s EV revolution? Let’s explore.

A Strategic Joint Venture for India’s EV Future

This milestone follows the creation of a dedicated joint venture, Musashi Delta e-Axle India Private Limited, established in September 2023. The JV brings together three global leaders: Musashi Seimitsu (51% stake), Taiwan-based Delta Electronics (34%), and Japan’s Toyota Tsusho Corporation (15%). The partnership combines Musashi’s drivetrain expertise, Delta’s electronics capabilities, and Toyota Tsusho’s global supply-chain strength — forming a powerful foundation for e-axle development in India.

Investment & Production Expansion Plan

Musashi has committed ₹160 crore (INR 1.6 billion) under Phase I of its EV business strategy in India. The Bangalore plant has begun with a production capacity of 10,000 e-axles per month. However, the company has ambitious plans ahead — production is expected to scale significantly to reach 1 million units annually by 2030, underscoring the rising demand for electric two-wheelers in India and global markets.

Targeting India’s High-Volume EV Scooter Segment

The new e-axles are specifically engineered for India’s largest EV category: mainstream electric scooters equivalent to 125cc petrol models. Musashi is currently working with Indian EV startup BNC Motors, whose upcoming two-wheeler model will feature these advanced drive units. Discussions are also underway to supply major OEMs such as Ather Energy and TVS Motor Company, further widening Musashi’s footprint.

High Localization & Global Reach

A strong focus on localization is central to the project. Musashi aims to achieve 60–70% local supply-chain cost by the end of the current fiscal year. In addition to serving the domestic market, the company plans to export e-axles to ASEAN and African countries, positioning India as a production hub for global EV components.

Lightweight, Efficient & Quiet — The Future of EV Mobility

Musashi’s e-axle is a compact, integrated unit combining an electric motor and gearbox. Designed to be lightweight, energy-efficient, and quiet, it enhances performance, improves riding comfort, and extends vehicle range — key factors for the fast-evolving EV two-wheeler market.
