Mahindra Unveils NU IQ Platform: Mahindra & Mahindra has taken a bold step into the future of mobility with the unveiling of its all-new NU_IQ platform in 2025. This next-generation modular vehicle architecture is the backbone of the company’s Vision 2027 strategy, which aims to place Indian innovation firmly on the global automotive stage.
Designed as a multi-energy, scalable, and globally adaptable platform, NU_IQ will underpin Mahindra’s upcoming SUVs, crossovers, off-roaders, and pickup trucks. The first production models are expected to arrive in 2027, starting with the much-anticipated Vision S.
What is the NU_IQ Platform?
The Mahindra NU_IQ platform is a versatile, multi-energy SUV architecture developed to meet the needs of diverse markets. Unlike traditional single-energy vehicle platforms, NU_IQ supports:
- Multiple powertrains: Petrol, diesel, hybrid, and fully electric (EV).
- Different drive systems: Front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD).
- Global adaptability: Engineered for both Left-Hand Drive (LHD) and Right-Hand Drive (RHD) markets.
Safety and strength are at the core of NU_IQ. The platform is designed to comply with Global NCAP, Euro NCAP, and ASEAN NCAP standards, integrating high-strength materials, Uni-ring side impact structures, and Twin Trident load paths for enhanced crash protection.
Additionally, the platform features NU_UX, Mahindra’s next-generation integrated domain architecture that enables software-defined vehicles, cloud-based connected systems, and Level 2+ ADAS readiness.
The Four Vision Concepts
Alongside NU_IQ, Mahindra showcased four futuristic SUV concepts—Vision S, Vision X, Vision T, and Vision SXT. Each concept reflects a unique expression of Mahindra’s global ambitions while staying true to its SUV DNA.
Vision S – The Urban SUV
The Vision S will be the first production SUV from the NU_IQ platform in 2027. A sleek and modern urban SUV, it emphasizes design, comfort, and technology.

- Interior & Technology: Equipped with NU_UX, an immersive infotainment system, connected car features, and Level 2+ ADAS.
- Comfort: Offers spacious interiors with 937 mm rear legroom and a 644-litre boot space.
- Purpose: Represents Mahindra’s entry into the mainstream global SUV market.
Vision X – The Sporty SUV
The Vision X is designed as the sportiest SUV in Mahindra’s future lineup. With an athletic, low-slung stance and aggressive styling, it targets driving enthusiasts who want the practicality of an SUV with performance-inspired dynamics.

Vision T – The Adventure SUV
Inspired by the legendary Mahindra Thar, the Vision T redefines Mahindra’s off-road DNA for global markets.

- Design: Rugged yet modern, blending hardcore 4×4 capability with advanced tech and comfort.
- Strategic Role: Aimed at competing with the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, and Suzuki Jimny 5-door.
- Markets: Expected to play a major role in Mahindra’s expansion into Australia, Africa, and Europe.
Vision SXT – The Pickup SUV
The Vision SXT combines the toughness of a utility truck with the comfort and sophistication of an SUV.

- Segment: Targets the fast-growing lifestyle pickup market.
- Strengths: Practical yet stylish, making it suitable for both urban buyers and adventure seekers.
Role in Mahindra’s Global Strategy
The NU_IQ platform is central to Mahindra’s Vision 2027 strategy, which focuses on creating globally competitive, premium SUVs. The company’s expansion plan involves launching NU_IQ-based vehicles first in South Africa and Australia, followed by the UK and other key international markets.
Unlike traditional automakers chasing sheer volumes, Mahindra’s goal is to achieve leadership in revenue share by offering highly desirable SUVs that combine capability, design, and advanced technology.
Design Philosophy – “Opposites Attract”
Developed by Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) in the UK, the Vision SUVs follow the HEARTCORE design philosophy.
Pratap Bose, Chief Design & Creative Officer, explained that the design theme is based on “Opposites Attract”, where contrasting elements—ruggedness and elegance, tradition and modernity—are merged to create expressive, future-ready vehicles.
Conclusion: Mahindra Unveils NU IQ Platform
The unveiling of the NU_IQ platform and its four Vision concepts marks a new chapter in Mahindra’s journey. With its multi-energy flexibility, global safety standards, cutting-edge technology, and bold design, NU_IQ positions Mahindra as a strong contender in the global SUV and pickup market.
By 2027, when the Vision S rolls out as the first production model, Mahindra will not just be competing—it will be reshaping the SUV landscape worldwide.
