Honda is set to make a significant push into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the unveiling of its new Honda 0 Series EV at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025. After years of focusing primarily on hybrid vehicles, the Japanese automaker is now targeting affordable electric mobility on a global scale, including Asia. This series marks Honda’s serious entry into the EV segment, with India set to receive a dedicated model in the financial year 2027 (April 2026–March 2027).

Honda 0 Series: Philosophy and Design

The Honda 0 Series is built around three guiding principles: “Thin, Light, and Wise.” Unlike many current EVs, which tend to be bulky and heavy, these vehicles prioritize lightweight, aerodynamic designs while integrating smart technology. The series will include a sedan and a mid-size SUV, with the SUV slated to reach international markets first, followed by the sedan.

Honda aims to optimize interior space with compact electric motors placed lower in the car, enhancing both aerodynamics and cabin comfort. The base version of the 0 Series SUV will feature a 245-horsepower rear-wheel-drive motor, while higher-end models will have all-wheel-drive options for improved performance and traction.

Additionally, Honda is developing ASIMO OS, an intelligent operating system that adapts to each driver’s preferences, creating a more personalized driving experience over time. The vehicles will also offer Level 3 autonomous driving, allowing hands-free driving in certain conditions—a feature still rare even in premium luxury cars.

Likely Specifications

The sedan variant will feature a battery pack of up to 90kWh, offering a range of over 482 km on a single charge. This positions it competitively against premium EVs globally. The SUV, intended for India and other price-sensitive Asian markets, will be a purpose-built mid-size electric SUV designed specifically for affordability and practicality, rather than being an electrified version of an existing model.

Pricing and Market Strategy

Internationally, the Honda 0 Series is expected to start around $50,000 (~₹42 lakh), placing it in the premium EV category. For Asia, however, Honda is taking a different approach. The India-specific mid-size SUV is expected to cost around ₹18 lakh, with state incentives potentially reducing the effective price to ₹16.5 lakh, making it highly competitive against rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, and MG ZS EV.

Honda’s pricing strategy reflects its understanding of market differences: while premium markets prioritize features and range, price-sensitive markets like India need affordable, practical EV solutions.

Launch Timeline

The Honda 0 Series will launch internationally in 2026, with North America receiving the SUV first, followed by Europe and Japan. The Asian launch, including India, will be carefully staged based on infrastructure readiness. Honda plans to support the rollout with fast-charging stations in key cities and highways, including DC chargers at dealerships.

Honda’s Broader India Strategy

Honda’s India strategy goes beyond a single EV launch. The company plans to introduce five SUVs by 2030, continue offering hybrid models like the Elevate hybrid, and expand its EV lineup progressively by 2029. By combining affordable technology, efficient manufacturing, and market-specific designs, Honda aims to establish itself as a reliable player in India’s growing EV market.

With the 0 Series, Honda is not only entering the EV race but doing so with a tailored approach—balancing advanced technology, affordability, and practicality, making electric mobility accessible to a wider audience.
