Blackbuck Electric Vehicles has introduced a contender in India’s premium intercity transport market: the ELON 3X, a purpose-built electric sleeper coach designed for long overnight journeys. Measuring 15 meters and featuring three axles, the vehicle combines high passenger capacity with dedicated luggage storage and technology aimed at improving ride quality. With the Blackbuck EV ELON 3X Unveiled, the Indian startup is positioning its in-house engineering program as an alternative to diesel-based coach platforms. Reservations are now open, while commercial production is targeted for mid-2027. The launch signals an ambitious step toward electrifying India’s long-distance sleeper bus services without compromising passenger comfort.
What Is the ELON 3X?
The ELON 3X is a 15-meter, three-axle electric sleeper coach developed in India. It offers 42 berths, two battery options, and more than 9 cubic meters of luggage space. Certified range and charging speeds remain undisclosed.

42 Berths, Two Batteries and More Luggage Room
Blackbuck EV ELON 3X Unveiled with specifications tailored to overnight intercity operations:
- Passenger accommodation: 42 sleeper berths, plus separate positions for the driver and co-driver.
- Battery choices: 425 kWh or 565 kWh, allowing operators to match capacity to routes.
- Luggage storage: More than 9 m³ for passenger bags and cargo, especially on routes where luggage demand is high.
- Vehicle layout: 15 metres long, supported by a three-axle configuration for weight distribution and highway stability.
Born-Electric Platform Targets Efficiency
Rather than converting a diesel bus chassis, Blackbuck EV developed its proprietary Born-Electric Skateboard Architecture. The platform integrates lightweight structural engineering, electric propulsion, batteries and electrical systems into one vehicle design.
The company says this approach aims to improve energy efficiency, maximize usable space, and reduce total cost of ownership. However, it has not published a certified driving range, charging performance or independently verified operating-cost figures.
Comfort and Safety for Overnight Highways
Blackbuck EV ELON 3X Unveiled with a suspension and steering package designed for a large coach. Independent front suspension works alongside Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS) to enhance ride comfort. Active tag-axle steering is intended to improve low-speed maneuverability and reduce turning difficulty.
Standard safety features include an Electronic Braking System (EBS), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), an Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and disc brakes on every wheel.
Four Years of Indian Engineering
According to Blackbuck EV, the ELON 3X underwent four years of development, including two years of real-world road testing. Engineers evaluated handling, stability, durability, ride quality, and system integration under operating conditions.
The coach follows European automotive standards and international design practices, with components sourced through established global suppliers while vehicle development remains in-house in India.
Reservations Open Ahead of 2027 Production
With Blackbuck EV ELON 3X Unveiled, Blackbuck EV is targeting operators seeking high-capacity, premium electric sleeper services. Founder and CEO R. K. Raju says the company’s vision is to make journeys more comfortable, vehicles more valuable to operators, and every unit of energy go further.
Reservations have begun, but production is only planned for mid-2027. Pricing, the certified range, and charging details will be crucial for determining commercial viability.
