In a major push towards sustainable urban transport, the Andhra Pradesh government has officially rolled out its ambitious electric mobility roadmap. The AP govt. notifies five model e-mobility cities as part of the Andhra Pradesh Sustainable Electric Mobility Policy (4.0) 2024–29, aiming to transform key urban centers into advanced EV ecosystems.
Five Cities Selected as Green Mobility Hubs
Under this initiative, the AP govt. notifies five model e-mobility cities across different administrative regions to ensure balanced regional development. These include:
- Visakhapatnam (North Andhra)
- Rajahmundry (Godavari Region)
- Vijayawada (Central Andhra)
- Nellore (South Andhra)
- Tirupati (Rayalaseema)
These cities will act as pilot hubs for implementing cutting-edge electric mobility solutions and sustainable transport systems.

₹250 Crore Investment to Power EV Infrastructure
To support this transformation, the government has allocated a total corpus of ₹250 crore, with ₹50 crore dedicated to each city. The funds will be used to develop robust EV infrastructure, including widespread charging networks and green transport corridors. The move reinforces the state’s long-term vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2047.
Key Features of the EV Policy 4.0
The AP government notifies five model e-mobility cities with a clear focus on infrastructure and regulation. Major highlights include the following:
- Establishment of EV charging stations in a 3×3 km grid across cities
- Charging infrastructure every 30 km along highways
- Development of Zero Emission Zones (ZEZs)
- Mandatory EV charging provisions in new buildings
These measures are expected to accelerate EV adoption while improving urban mobility efficiency.
City-Specific Mobility Strategies
Each city will focus on tailored solutions based on its geography and transport needs:
- Visakhapatnam & Vijayawada: Green Bus Rapid Transit Systems (BRTS) and logistics electrification
- Rajahmundry & Nellore: Electric river transport and coastal logistics
- Tirupati: Electrification of pilgrim transport systems
Towards a Cleaner, Future-Ready Andhra Pradesh
Officials highlighted that this initiative marks a transformational shift in urban planning by integrating clean energy with advanced infrastructure. With the AP government notifying five model e-mobility cities, the state aims to enhance ease of living, boost economic opportunities, and significantly reduce pollution levels.
As the AP govt. notifies five model e-mobility cities, and Andhra Pradesh positions itself at the forefront of India’s green mobility transition, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
