BYD’s Upcoming Flagship 7-Seater EV is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious electric SUVs the global EV market has seen so far. Recently spotted testing in China and now confirmed through regulatory filings with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), this all-new model will be known as the BYD Datang, or “Great Tang.” Positioned as the premium flagship of BYD’s Dynasty series, it blends ultra-fast charging, massive dimensions, and luxury-focused technology.
Flagship Size Meets Premium Design
The BYD Datang is a true full-size family SUV, measuring an imposing 5.26 metres in length and carrying a gross vehicle weight of 3,245 kg. Its design leans heavily toward luxury, with a bold front fascia and a visible LiDAR sensor, signaling support for BYD’s advanced God’s Eye autonomous driving system. This places BYD’s Upcoming Flagship 7-Seater EV firmly in the premium segment, aimed at buyers seeking both space and cutting-edge tech.
Powertrain Options and Performance
According to regulatory data, the SUV will be offered in multiple powertrain configurations:
- Single-motor rear-wheel drive options delivering 300 kW or 370 kW
- Dual-motor all-wheel drive with a combined output of 585 kW (around 785 hp)
Despite its size, performance won’t be compromised. A “4.9s” badge spotted on test vehicles suggests a 0–100 km/h time of just 4.9 seconds, impressive for a 7-seater SUV. This level of performance ensures BYD’s Upcoming Flagship 7-Seater EV delivers both power and refinement.
1,000 kW Flash Charging Revolution
The biggest highlight is BYD’s groundbreaking Super e-Platform, making this SUV capable of 1,000 kW (1 MW) DC fast charging. Built on a 1,000-volt architecture with 1,000 amps of current, the system can add 400 km of range in just 5 minutes, equating to nearly 2 km of range per second.
This is enabled by a next-generation Flash Charging Blade Battery with a 10C charging rate, supported by advanced silicon carbide power chips for thermal control. The technology was first introduced with the relaunched Tang in March 2025 and is now being scaled up for BYD’s Upcoming Flagship 7-Seater EV.
Charging Network and Global Plans
To support this ultra-fast charging tech, BYD is rolling out 15,000 megawatt-level charging stations across China, partnering with major infrastructure providers. International expansion is also on the roadmap, with deployments planned for Europe, the UK, and other global markets.
The BYD Datang is expected to debut officially ahead of the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026, further strengthening BYD’s strategy of covering everything from compact city EVs to ultra-luxury SUVs. With its blend of size, speed, and charging innovation, BYD’s Upcoming Flagship 7-Seater EV could redefine expectations in the premium electric SUV segment.
