Rajnath Singh to inaugurate Ashok Leyland EV unit in Lucknow on Friday, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s journey toward industrial growth and electric mobility. The Defence Minister and Lucknow MP will visit his parliamentary constituency to launch the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Sarojini Nagar formally.

Schedule of the Inauguration Event

According to City BJP President Anand Dwivedi, Rajnath Singh will arrive at Lucknow Airport at 11:10 a.m. on January 9. From there, he will proceed directly to the Ashok Leyland Electric Vehicle (EV) facility to take part in the inauguration ceremony. After completing the programme, he is scheduled to leave the venue around 1:30 pm and depart for New Delhi at 1:45 pm. The event highlights how Rajnath Singh to inaugurate Ashok Leyland EV unit in Lucknow is being seen as a symbol of renewed industrial momentum in the region.

About the New Ashok Leyland Plant

The new plant has been established on the same land where Scooters India Ltd once operated, giving new life to a historic industrial site. It is an integrated chassis and bus-manufacturing unit with an initial production capacity of 2,500 units per year, which will be expanded to 5,000 units per year in later phases.

Investment and Government Support

Ashok Leyland has invested around ₹1,000 crore in the project. The Yogi Adityanath government played a key role by signing an MoU with the company in September 2023 and issuing the Letter of Intent in January 2024. Remarkably, the world-class facility was set up in just 14 months, underscoring efficient governance and execution. This achievement further strengthens the narrative of Rajnath Singh to inaugurate the Ashok Leyland EV unit in Lucknow as a landmark development.

Future-Ready Mobility Hub

The unit will manufacture advanced commercial vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, electric drivetrains, and alternative fuels for both domestic and global markets. State industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ stated that the plant will enhance Uttar Pradesh’s automobile manufacturing strength and prepare the state for the future of mobility.
