The electric vehicle (EV) revolution continues to accelerate worldwide, and with it comes a growing emphasis on sustainable battery management. In a significant move toward strengthening the UK’s clean-tech infrastructure, Green Tech Industries (GTI)—a UK-based EV battery recycling firm—is expanding its operations in Southam. The development, originally reported by the BBC, marks a crucial step in enhancing the country’s capacity to manage end-of-life EV batteries responsibly.
Strengthening the Recycling Ecosystem
GTI, led by CEO Tony Booth, has outlined an ambitious plan to double its workforce from 10 to 20 employees. This expansion reflects the increasing demand for efficient and safe recycling solutions as EV adoption surges. The company is also establishing a new factory and technology centre in the Midlands, which will serve as a blueprint for a larger, innovation-driven hub dedicated to advanced battery recycling.
The company’s core operation involves breaking down used EV batteries, salvaging recyclable materials, and reintegrating them into the supply chain. This circular approach not only reduces waste but also decreases reliance on mining raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel—further supporting the sustainability goals of the EV sector.
Innovation in Battery Safety and Disassembly
One of GTI’s standout achievements has been the launch of an IP-controlled safety system for handling and disassembling hazardous battery materials. Introduced earlier in 2025, this technology enhances worker safety while ensuring precise, reliable processing of damaged or volatile battery components. Such innovations highlight GTI’s commitment to leading technological progress in the battery recycling domain.
Addressing Name Confusion in the Recycling Market
As GTI grows, it also faces a challenge common in the recycling and sustainability sector—name similarity with other companies. For instance:
- Greentech Recycling (India): A Meerut-based firm specialising in recycling electronic and electrical waste.
- Greentech Resources: A staffing provider that supplies talent to the renewable energy and battery industries.
- GreenTech Fuels: An Indian company offering energy storage solutions under the “GreenTech Batteries” brand.
Though their names may resemble GTI’s, these organisations operate in different segments of the recycling and clean-tech landscape. Distinguishing GTI’s identity remains essential as its operations and visibility expand.

A Step Forward for the EV Future
With its strategic expansion, Green Tech Industries is strengthening the UK’s EV battery circular economy, supporting both environmental goals and technological progress. As EV adoption grows, such initiatives play a pivotal role in building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable mobility future.
