Electrification is accelerating rapidly in India, and one of the biggest challenges for buyers remains range anxiety. However, several new EVs now offer 500 km+ real or certified range, making them viable for intercity and highway travel. In this blog, we examine five of the longest-range EVs currently relevant to India: Mahindra XEV 9e, Kia EV9, Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai IONIQ 5, and BYD Seal.

With bold styling, a coupe-SUV roofline, and a tech-rich cabin, the XEV 9e presents itself as a premium electric offering with serious range credentials. While the marketed figure of 533 km for its higher battery variant is often cited in Indian media, Mahindra positions it as a flagship in its “Born Electric” lineup. The car’s dual battery options, advanced driver assist features, and its performance promise make it one of the most eagerly watched EVs in the country.

  • The Kia EV9 enters at a much higher price point but with flagship features and a large battery capacity.
  • Hyundai IONIQ 5 provides a balanced package of premium features, a useful range, and usability (like V2L). If you want to know about the mindblowing use of vehicle-to-load (V2L), then watch this video, Maggi Recipe with TATA Curvv EV.
  • Battery size, thermal management, charging infrastructure support, and software/ADAS integration are as critical as raw range numbers.
