Chery Patents Lepas L4 EV & Exeed RX PHEV as the Chinese automaker continues expanding its intellectual property portfolio in India ahead of its expected market entry with JSW Motors. While design patents do not guarantee a commercial launch, they signal Chery’s long-term commitment to protecting future products in one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive markets.

The latest filings add to a growing list of Chery models already patented in India, including the Jetour T2, Jaecoo J5, Jaecoo J7, Tiggo 7L, Tiggo V, Lepas L6, QQ3 EV, and Exlantix concepts. This expanding portfolio suggests the company is preparing multiple product options for its upcoming new-energy vehicle (NEV) strategy.

Lepas L4 EV Targets Premium Compact SUV Segment

The Chery Patents Lepas L4 EV & Exeed RX PHEV development is particularly significant because the Lepas L4 is positioned as a premium compact electric SUV designed for global markets. Internationally, the SUV is offered with a 67 kWh battery pack, a 150 kW (202 hp) front-mounted electric motor and front-wheel drive, delivering a claimed range of around 450 km.

A plug-in hybrid variant is also available, producing 205 kW and 350 Nm of torque and offering up to 90 km of pure electric driving. Premium features include a 9.9-inch infotainment display, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, ADAS, adaptive cruise control, ventilated seats, and premium upholstery.

What It Means For India

Chery Patents Lepas L4 EV & Exeed RX PHEV at a time when its partnership with JSW Motors is gaining momentum, with several Chery-based SUVs already spotted testing in India. Industry expectations suggest the collaboration could introduce rugged SUVs, premium crossovers, and electrified models tailored for Indian buyers.

Although patents alone do not confirm launches, Chery’s consistent filings indicate a structured long-term product strategy.
