The wait is over for electric vehicle enthusiasts as the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV Launched in Indonesia, creating a buzz in the automotive world. Priced at IDR 759 million OTR Jakarta (around Rs 40.78 lakh), this marks Toyota’s first full-fledged electric offering in the country. Unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the Urban Cruiser EV combines futuristic design, advanced features, and impressive range, promising a new era of urban mobility. Beyond Indonesia, its precursor—the Urban SUV Concept—has been showcased globally, leaving fans curious about Toyota’s plans for Europe and India. Design Highlights

The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV boasts a modern and sporty design. At the front, it features sleek swept-back headlights with eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs, a connecting light bar, and a blacked-out closed grille, complemented by functional air intakes on a sculpted bumper. The sides of the SUV are defined by 18-inch aerodynamic wheels, thick body cladding, and blacked-out ORVMs with integrated LED turn signals, giving it a robust yet stylish profile. The rear features a connected taillight bar, a subtle roof spoiler with a stop lamp, a shark fin antenna, and a rear wiper. Interestingly, its side and rear styling cues resemble the Maruti Suzuki E Vitara, reflecting their shared design lineage.

Range & Battery

Under the hood, the Urban Cruiser EV comes equipped with a 61.1 kWh battery pack. The electric motor delivers a peak power of 172 hp and a torque of 192 Nm. Toyota claims that the Urban Cruiser EV can achieve a range of up to 426.7 km on a single charge. Customers can choose between Front-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive configurations, catering to different driving preferences.

Features & Technology

The Urban Cruiser EV is packed with advanced features. It offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.21-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Toyota’s T Intouch connectivity system ensures access to vehicle status, tracking, and other essential information. Additional highlights include automatic climate control, a sunroof, electronic parking brake with auto hold, powered driver seat, JBL sound system, and USB-C charging ports, combining convenience, comfort, and technology seamlessly.

India Launch & Future Prospects

The Urban Cruiser EV will share the Heartect E platform with the Maruti Suzuki E Vitara and is expected to be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant. Toyota aims to launch it in India by mid-2026, with an expected price range of Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the Urban SUV Concept also sets the stage for a European launch in 2025, with an estimated 426 km range, showcasing Toyota’s global ambitions in the electric vehicle segment.
