Tata Motors continues to lead India’s electric mobility shift, thanks to a diverse and rapidly expanding electric vehicle lineup. The brand has already strengthened its EV portfolio across multiple segments, and now it is preparing to introduce yet another major upgrade. After the Harrier EV, Tata is working on its first three-row electric SUV—Tata Safari EV Incoming—a model set to elevate the company’s premium EV offerings. Expected to launch around Diwali, this SUV will rival the Mahindra XEV 9S and the upcoming VinFast VF MPV 7 (Limo Green).

A New Chapter in Tata’s Flagship EV Lineup

The Safari and Harrier duo has long served as Tata’s flagship pair in the ICE segment, with Harrier positioned as the five-seater and Safari as the three-row alternative. On the electric side, Tata currently offers only the Harrier EV, but now Tata Safari EV Incoming marks the brand’s expansion into the three-row EV space for the first time.

Production of the Safari EV is likely to begin around August 2026, with its internal codename revealed as Tayrona. The new model is expected to be based on the advanced acti.ev+ platform, the same architecture that supports the Harrier EV.

Design and Interior Expectations

Just like the Harrier EV, the Safari EV is expected to receive subtle yet modern exterior updates. These may include a closed-off EV-specific grille, a refreshed bumper, and newly designed alloy wheels. Inside, Tata is likely to retain the familiar interior layout of the current Safari ICE model—similar to the strategy used between the Harrier EV and its ICE counterpart—ensuring a premium and refined cabin experience.

However, the Safari EV will gain all the intelligent features of Tata’s new TIDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer). These include:

  • Auto park assist
  • 540-degree camera
  • Off-road assist
  • Summon mode
  • Enhanced ADAS suite

This tech upgrade positions the Tata Safari EV Incoming as one of the most feature-rich EVs in its class.

Battery, Range & Performance

The upcoming Safari EV is expected to share its battery options with the Harrier EV—65 kWh and 75 kWh packs. The larger battery can deliver a range of up to 627 km, based on Harrier EV figures. The drivetrain options could include:

  • 65 kWh: Single-motor RWD
  • 75 kWh: Dual-motor AWD (QWD)

The Harrier EV offers a total system peak torque of 504 Nm, with motors rated at 238 PS (rear) and 158 PS (front), and similar performance numbers are expected for the Safari EV as well. Fast-charging support of up to 100 kW DC is also likely.

Expected Pricing

Since the Harrier EV currently retails between ₹21.49 lakh and ₹28.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Safari EV is expected to be priced slightly higher, given its larger size and additional row of seating.

In short, Tata Safari EV Incoming is set to become Tata’s most premium electric SUV yet, completing the EV lineup and offering Indian buyers a powerful, feature-packed, three-row electric alternative.
