Tata Motors has set a new milestone in India’s automotive landscape by achieving its highest-ever electric vehicle (EV) sales in September 2025. With 9,191 EVs sold in a single month—a remarkable 96% year-on-year increase from 4,680 units in September 2024—Tata is firmly establishing itself as the leader in India’s EV market. Electric vehicles now account for nearly one in five of Tata’s total passenger vehicle sales, reflecting the growing consumer shift towards sustainable mobility. Tata Records Highest EV Sales

On a quarterly scale, Tata Motors posted another record, clocking 24,855 EVs in Q2 FY26. This represents a 59% increase over 15,642 units in the same period last year and marks the strongest quarterly EV performance in the company’s history. A significant driver of this growth is Tata’s expanding EV portfolio, including popular models like the Nexon EV, Punch EV, and the newly launched Harrier EV, which have broadened the appeal of Tata’s green range.

Cumulative EV sales between January and September 2025 reached 57,022 units—already four-fifths of the total sold in 2024—putting Tata on track to cross the 100,000-unit mark by the end of the calendar year. This milestone, which once seemed ambitious, now looks well within reach, cementing Tata’s dominance in the Indian EV market.

The company’s overall passenger vehicle business also reported impressive gains. Total sales in Q2 FY26, including international markets, reached 144,397 units, up 10% from 130,753 units a year earlier. Domestic PV sales stood at 140,189 units, reflecting an 8% year-on-year growth. Export volumes surged significantly as well, jumping more than fourfold to 4,208 units from 823 units in the same quarter last year, with South Africa being a key contributor.

Several factors fueled this unprecedented growth. The implementation of GST 2.0, which reduced tax rates on automobiles, boosted consumer sentiment, while the festive season, particularly Navratri, further encouraged purchases. Tata reported that new bookings more than doubled in the second half of September after the revised GST rates came into effect, highlighting strong buyer enthusiasm.

Tata’s success is not limited to EVs alone. Its CNG models also hit an all-time high of over 17,800 units in Q2 FY26, reflecting triple-digit growth compared to the same period last year. Popular petrol models, including the Nexon, set personal bests with over 22,500 units sold in a single month—the highest ever for any Tata passenger vehicle. The recently launched Adventure X editions of the Harrier and Safari further contributed to the sales momentum.

September 2025 also marked Tata’s highest-ever monthly passenger vehicle dispatches, totaling 60,907 units, a 47% increase over September 2024, with domestic sales contributing 59,667 units. EVs, alongside traditional and CNG models, have clearly become a major growth engine for the company.

In summary, Tata Motors’ record-breaking performance in September 2025 highlights its leadership in India’s EV space. With a combination of a diversified EV portfolio, favorable policy reforms, festive demand, and strong export growth, Tata is not only reshaping India’s electric mobility market but also setting new benchmarks for the automotive industry as a whole.
