Skoda To Launch Small EV in India late 2025: Skoda Auto is gearing up to make a significant push into the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market with a dedicated small EV designed specifically for local consumers. While the global Skoda Epiq EV will not be part of this strategy, the company is committed to expanding its EV portfolio in India, combining premium imported models with locally produced affordable options.
India-Specific Small EV: The Growth Strategy
The upcoming small EV is central to Skoda’s strategy to make India a major growth pillar, reducing its dependence on European markets. To cater to the local audience, the vehicle will be based on a localized version of the Volkswagen Group’s CMP 21 platform, initially developed in China. This platform allows for flexibility in producing compact, cost-effective EVs suited to Indian roads and driving conditions.
Although Skoda has not revealed an exact launch date for the locally manufactured small EV, reports suggest that production could begin by 2027. The company plans to first introduce imported EV models to the Indian market, building brand awareness and establishing a foothold before local production kicks off.
Premium EVs First: Building Momentum
Before launching its India-specific small EV, Skoda will debut several premium electric models. The first of these is the Skoda Enyaq iV, an imported, completely built unit (CBU), expected to arrive between September and November 2025. The Enyaq iV will come equipped with a 77 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 510 km, and is likely to be priced between ₹50 and ₹65 lakh (ex-showroom). This launch will help Skoda create a strong presence among premium EV buyers in India.
Following the Enyaq iV, Skoda plans to introduce the Elroq, a compact electric SUV targeted at urban consumers seeking a stylish yet practical EV option. The tentative launch for the Elroq is set for October 2025. These models will pave the way for the later introduction of the affordable, locally manufactured small EV, allowing Skoda to cater to multiple segments of the Indian EV market.

While the global Skoda Epiq EV is not included in India’s immediate plans, industry reports suggest that a highly localized version could be a game-changer. If produced in India, the vehicle could potentially be priced under ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a competitive option in the growing affordable EV segment.
