When it comes to electric vehicles, one question always lingers—how reliable are the battery and motor in the long run? In a bold move to answer this, River EV announces an 8-Year Battery and Motor warranty for its flagship scooter, the River Indie. This unprecedented step by the Bengaluru-based EV maker is set to redefine customer trust, offering unmatched peace of mind to riders. With an 8-year or 80,000-kilometer coverage, River is not just selling scooters—it’s selling confidence. Curious to know how this warranty is changing the game in India’s EV landscape? Let’s dive deeper!

Why This Matters?

The battery and motor are the two most critical and expensive components of any electric scooter. Concerns around battery degradation and long-term reliability often discourage customers from switching to EVs. By offering this extensive warranty, River aims to eliminate these worries, ensuring long-term peace of mind for its riders.

Warranty Coverage and Benefits

The extended warranty comes into effect starting October 1, 2025, and is available to both new and existing customers.

  • Battery Coverage: The warranty guarantees support if the battery’s State of Health (SOH) drops below 70%.
  • Motor Coverage: If the motor becomes non-functional even after repair attempts, it will be replaced under the warranty.

This dual coverage provides strong assurance against two of the most common challenges faced by EV owners, further underlining River’s confidence in its engineering quality.

Pricing and Eligibility

River has made the plan accessible with competitive pricing:

  • New Customers: For customers who purchased their scooter on or after April 1, 2025, the 8-year/80,000 km plan is available at ₹8,399 + GST.
  • Existing Customers: Owners who already opted for the 5-year extended warranty can upgrade to the new 8-year program for just ₹3,399 + GST, but only within a one-month limited window.

This flexibility highlights River’s customer-first approach, ensuring that both new buyers and existing owners benefit from the initiative.

Company Perspective

Commenting on the launch, Sachin Patial, Service Head at River, said:

“We are excited to introduce this extended warranty initiative, which underscores our strong confidence in River’s engineering and product quality. Today’s consumers value long-term trust and dependability, and with this 8-year warranty covering both the battery and motor, we aim to go beyond expectations by reinforcing our promise of durable and dependable mobility solutions.”

Strengthening River’s Market Position

By offering one of the longest warranties in the EV two-wheeler segment, River has set a new industry benchmark. This move addresses one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption—uncertainty around long-term ownership costs. It also strengthens River’s positioning as a customer-centric brand committed to delivering value, reliability, and sustainable mobility solutions.

River’s Growing Presence in India

Currently, River operates 32 stores across 15 cities, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Visakhapatnam. The company has recently expanded into new markets such as Pune, Vijayawada, and Trivandrum, with plans for further expansion. By 2026, River aims to establish a strong footprint across all major Indian cities through both company-owned outlets and dealership partners.

Conclusion

River’s 8-year battery and motor warranty is more than just an extended service plan—it’s a bold statement of trust and commitment. By addressing consumer concerns directly and setting a new standard in the EV industry, River is paving the way for wider adoption of electric mobility in India. With initiatives like these, the future of EV ownership looks more reliable, affordable, and customer-friendly than ever before.
