EV Sales Increase 1.5 Times in August 2025: August 2025 has emerged as a landmark month in India’s electric vehicle (EV) journey. Retail sales of electric cars soared to 17,298 units, marking a staggering 155% year-on-year increase compared to August 2024’s 6,787 units. This surge also saw a healthy 7.46% month-on-month rise over July 2025, which recorded 16,097 units.

  • Tata Motors led the charge with 7,088 units—its second month above 6,000 units, boosted by the launch of the Harrier EV alongside sustained demand for models like Punch, Nexon EV, and Curvv. Sales rose 13% month-over-month from July and 61% year-over-year.
  • MG Motor recorded 4,759 units—a 231% YoY jump. Momentum stems from mass-market models like Windsor EV and newer launches like the M9 MPV and Cyberster.
  • Mahindra continues an explosive run: 3,495 units sold, marking a 937% YoY leap from a modest base of 337 units, making it one of the top gainers.
  • Hyundai, driven by Creta Electric and Ioniq 5, registered a 1,290% YoY surge, albeit from a small base.
  • BYD and Kia also posted strong double and triple-digit growth, with Kia recording its best-ever EV sales in India.
