Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy has approved a fundraising plan of up to ₹2,500 crore to support its ambitious expansion strategy and strengthen its position in India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle market. The company’s board approved the directors’ decision during a meeting held on June 12, 2026. The Ather Energy Rs 2500 Crore Fundraise comes just over a year after the company’s stock market debut and highlights its commitment to scaling manufacturing capacity, launching new products, and meeting rising demand for electric mobility solutions across India.

Fundraising Structure: QIP and Additional Capital Routes

The proposed fundraising will be executed through two separate channels.

The largest portion, up to ₹1,500 crore, will be raised through a Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP) of equity shares. The issue may be carried out in one or multiple tranches, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.

The remaining ₹1,000 crore will be raised through instruments such as equity shares, Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds (FCCBs), preferential allotments, rights issues, or other eligible securities that can be converted into equity shares. The company has also formed a dedicated Fundraising Committee to oversee the entire process.

Why Ather Energy Needs Fresh Capital

The Ather Energy Rs 2500 Crore Fundraise is aimed at supporting a major expansion in production capacity. According to co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta, the company’s existing manufacturing facilities are operating at over 90% utilization, making capacity expansion a top priority.

Ather is currently developing its third manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra. Production at the new plant is expected to begin in phases from May 2026. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to help the company achieve an annual production capacity exceeding one million electric vehicles.

Strong Sales Growth and Improving Financial Performance

Ather Energy has witnessed significant business growth over the past year. The company sold approximately 2.62 lakh electric two-wheelers during FY26, representing a 69% year-on-year increase.

Financially, the company has also shown notable improvement. Revenue surged by 74% during the period, while net losses narrowed substantially to ₹100 crore in the fourth quarter of FY26. These strong operational and financial trends have provided confidence for the Ather Energy Rs 2500 Crore Fundraise initiative.

New Platforms and Future Product Pipeline

In addition to expanding manufacturing capacity, Ather is investing heavily in product development. The company is working on a new modular scooter platform called EL, with the first model expected to launch by the end of 2026.

Ather is also preparing to enter the electric motorcycle segment through its upcoming Zenith platform, targeting customers in the 125cc to 300cc category. These new products are expected to broaden the company’s market reach and strengthen its competitive position.

Ather Energy’s Journey and Market Outlook

Founded by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain and headquartered in Bengaluru, Ather Energy has built a comprehensive EV ecosystem that includes its Ather Grid fast-charging network and Atherstack software platform. Hero MotoCorp remains the company’s largest strategic investor, holding around a 38% stake after the IPO.

India’s electric two-wheeler market continues to grow rapidly. EV penetration in the segment has increased from 1.8% four years ago to approximately 6.6% today, with industry estimates suggesting it could reach 20% by FY30.

Against this backdrop, the Ather Energy Rs 2500 Crore Fundraise is expected to provide the capital needed to support long-term growth, expand production capabilities, and strengthen the company’s leadership ambitions in India’s evolving electric mobility sector.
