In a landmark achievement for the global automotive industry, BMW Group produces its two-millionth all-electric vehicle, marking a major step forward in its electrification journey. The milestone vehicle is a stunning BMW i5 M60 xDrive sedan finished in Tanzanian Blue, assembled at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. This special car is set to be delivered to a customer in Spain, symbolizing BMW’s growing global electric footprint.
Dingolfing: The Heart of BMW’s Electric Production
The Dingolfing plant has emerged as BMW’s leading hub for electric vehicle production. Since launching series production of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in 2021 with the BMW iX, the facility has rapidly expanded its capabilities. Today, it manufactures a wide range of premium EVs, including the BMW i5, BMW i7, and iX models.

Over 320,000 all-electric vehicles have been produced at Dingolfing alone, accounting for nearly one-sixth of BMW’s total BEV output. Notably, in 2025, more than 25% of the plant’s total production consisted of fully electric vehicles—an indicator of the accelerating shift toward electrification.
Rapid Growth in EV Production
The journey to this milestone reflects impressive growth. While it took BMW approximately 11 years (2013–2024) to produce its first million electric vehicles, the company achieved the second million in just about two years. This rapid pace highlights how BMW Group produces its two-millionth all-electric vehicle as a result of strong demand, technological advancements, and strategic investments.
Flexible Strategy with iFACTORY
A key factor behind this success is BMW’s innovative iFACTORY production strategy. The company follows a technology-open approach, allowing different powertrains—electric, hybrid, and combustion—to be produced on the same assembly lines. This flexibility ensures efficiency while adapting to changing market demands.
Today, at least one all-electric model is produced at every German BMW plant, making e-mobility a standard across its manufacturing network. This also contributes significantly to Germany’s position as the world’s second-largest producer of electric vehicles.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Electrification
With this achievement, BMW Group produces its two-millionth all-electric vehicle as part of a broader vision for the future. The company aims for electric vehicles to account for 50% of its global sales before 2030. This goal will be driven by upcoming innovations, including the highly anticipated “Neue Klasse” generation of EVs.
As BMW Group produces its two-millionth all-electric vehicle, it not only celebrates a milestone but also reinforces its commitment to a sustainable, electric-driven future in the automotive world.
