Mitsubishi Motors is gearing up to make a bold entry into the electric performance space with Mitsubishi’s Hot Hatch EV, a compact yet powerful electric car developed in partnership with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies. This move marks a strategic shift as Mitsubishi looks to accelerate its EV roadmap by leveraging global collaborations.
Foxtron Partnership: A Foxconn-Backed Advantage
Foxtron is the automotive arm of Foxconn—the global manufacturing giant best known for producing iPhones and consumer electronics. Mitsubishi has selected Foxtron as its development and supply partner for this upcoming EV hatchback, particularly for the Australian and New Zealand markets. While Mitsubishi continues to collaborate with Nissan for EV infrastructure in the US, Foxtron will play a key role in this Oceania-focused project.

Based on the Foxtron Bria Platform
At its core, Mitsubishi’s Hot Hatch EV is expected to be heavily based on the Foxtron Bria, a production model derived from the Model B concept. The vehicle will likely use Foxtron’s MIH open EV platform. Dimensionally, the Bria measures 4315 mm in length, 1885 mm in width, and 1535 mm in height—placing it neatly between a Volkswagen Golf and Toyota Corolla.
All variants will use a 57.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering an estimated range of up to 517 km on the NEDC cycle, though real-world figures will be lower.
Performance That Defines a Hot Hatch
Two powertrain options are expected. The rear-wheel-drive version produces around 220–229 hp and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in roughly 6.8 seconds. The real highlight, however, is the dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant, which churns out nearly 400 hp and rockets to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
This top-spec model could also feature Mitsubishi’s rally-inspired Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system with torque vectoring, reinforcing the performance credentials of Mitsubishi’s Hot Hatch EV.
Charging, Interior, and Tech Highlights
Fast charging peaks at 134 kW, allowing a 10–80% recharge in about 30 minutes. Inside, the EV is expected to offer a tech-rich cabin with a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a premium 7- or 12-speaker audio system.
Styling, Naming, and Launch Timeline
Mitsubishi is expected to add its own design touches and locally tune the suspension and steering for Australian roads. While enthusiasts speculate about an “Evo” revival, trademark filings suggest names like ASX VR-e or ASX GT-e are more likely.
