New Mercedes GLC EV revealed with 735km range: Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the all-new GLC EV at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, marking a major step forward in the brand’s electric mobility strategy. Also referred to as the GLC with EQ Technology, this premium electric SUV is designed to succeed the outgoing EQC while being sold alongside the internal combustion GLC. With a provisional WLTP range of up to 735 km, cutting-edge battery technology, and advanced features, the GLC EV is positioned as a strong competitor in the luxury electric SUV segment.
Performance and Range
At its core, the GLC EV is built on Mercedes’ MB.EA platform, which is 800V-compatible for ultra-fast charging and efficiency. Power comes from a 94 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery, supporting DC fast charging up to 330 kW.
Two powertrain options will be offered:
- GLC 300+ (RWD): Equipped with a single rear-mounted motor, delivering 374 hp and 504 Nm of torque.
- GLC 400 4Matic (AWD): Features a dual-motor setup for 490 hp and 808 Nm of torque.
Thanks to its 800V system, the SUV can recharge from 10–80% in just 24 minutes, while a quick 10-minute top-up adds over 300 km of range. Combined with an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.26, the GLC EV delivers class-leading efficiency for long-distance travel.
Design and Interior
On the outside, the GLC EV blends design cues from the standard GLC while integrating distinctive EV elements. The most striking feature is the illuminated grille with 942 LED pixels surrounding a glowing three-pointed star. Sleek LED headlights with star-shaped running lights and a rear light bar with star-shaped LEDs add futuristic touches to its elegant SUV profile.
Inside, luxury meets technology. The highlight is the massive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, the largest ever fitted to a Mercedes. It runs the latest MBUX software with an AI-powered assistant, enhancing personalization and convenience. Unlike earlier EQ models, Mercedes has reintroduced physical buttons and knobs for key controls, ensuring better usability. Customers can also opt for a “vegan package”, offering sustainable, animal-free interior materials.
Chassis and Technology
The GLC EV is engineered for both comfort and agility. An optional AIRMATIC air suspension, adapted from the flagship S-Class, provides a smooth and refined ride. The rear-axle steering system allows the rear wheels to turn up to 4.5 degrees, boosting maneuverability in tight spaces.
In terms of safety and performance, a new “one-box” braking system—developed with ZF—integrates the brake booster, master cylinder, and ESP into one module, ensuring a consistent and confident pedal feel. Additionally, the SUV is technically ready for bidirectional charging, meaning it could potentially supply power back to the grid or home systems in the future.
Market and Release
The GLC EV replaces the EQC, which will end production in 2026. Positioned in the premium electric SUV market, it will compete with rivals such as the BMW iX3, Audi Q6 e-tron, and Porsche Macan Electric. While official pricing is yet to be announced, the GLC EV is expected to launch in the US market by the second half of 2026.
With its long driving range, rapid charging capability, luxurious interior, and advanced technology, the new Mercedes GLC EV is set to redefine the brand’s electric future and stand tall in the competitive EV market.
