In a significant push for sustainable urban transport, Trichy EV startup gets 25 crore state funding under the Tamil Nadu Green Climate Fund scheme. The investment was announced in February 2026 during a climate summit in Chennai, where the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Fund Management Corporation (TNIFMC) pledged ₹25 crore to Oor Cabs, a Trichy-based electric vehicle aggregator operating e-autorickshaws.
This funding marks a turning point for green mobility initiatives across Tamil Nadu’s tier-II cities.
Scaling Up Green Mobility in Tamil Nadu
Oor Cabs currently owns and operates 40 e-autorickshaws in Trichy, providing nearly 500 rides daily. However, the startup receives over 1,100 booking requests each day, fulfilling only about 45% due to fleet limitations. Passenger waiting times can sometimes exceed 15 minutes.
With the announcement that Trichy EV startup gets 25 crore state funding, the company now plans a large-scale expansion. Within a year, Oor Cabs aims to add at least 300 e-autorickshaws across the state. For Trichy alone, 100 new e-autos will be deployed before May 2026, with plans to gradually scale up to 300 more vehicles in phases.
Beyond Trichy, expansion is planned in Madurai, Tirunelveli, Karaikudi, and Thanjavur, strengthening eco-friendly public transport options in multiple cities.
Charging Infrastructure and Net-Zero Vision
A portion of the ₹25 crore investment will be used to establish charging infrastructure in three key areas of Trichy. This move will support seamless fleet operations and reduce downtime.
Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce solar-powered charging stations, aligning with its long-term goal of achieving net-zero emissions. The fact that Trichy EV startup gets 25 crore state funding highlights the state government’s commitment to climate-conscious urban mobility solutions.
Empowering Women Through Employment
Oor Cabs stands out for its inclusive employment model. The startup currently employs drivers on a fixed monthly salary, including 16 women drivers. With fleet expansion, more women will be recruited, with salaries starting at ₹16,500 per month. This initiative promotes both sustainable transport and women’s economic empowerment.
AI-Driven Operations for Smarter Mobility
To address high demand and long waiting times, Oor Cabs is developing AI-powered tools to predict ride demand and strategically distribute vehicles across different city zones. The service operates through a dedicated mobile application and WhatsApp booking system, making it accessible and user-friendly.
