MG4 EV Launch Details for India: MG Motor is gearing up to introduce its cutting-edge electric hatchback, the MG4 EV, in India by late 2025 or early 2026. Initially showcased at Auto Expo 2023, the MG4 EV promises to bring a blend of modern design, performance, and technology to India’s growing EV segment.

Expected Pricing & Launch Timeline

The MG4 EV is expected to be priced around ₹30 lakh ex-showroom, positioning it in a premium bracket of India’s electric hatchback market. Launch timelines suggest a rollout by December 2025, though this could extend into early 2026 depending on regulatory approvals and localization efforts.

Design & Dimensions

Built using SAIC’s E3 modular electric platform (also referred to as MSP or Modular Scalable Platform), the MG4 EV delivers enhanced space and agility. It stands at 4,395 mm in length, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, and measures 1,842 mm wide and 1,551 mm tall—making it almost as large as the Hyundai Creta and offering a spacious cabin experience.

Battery, Range & Charging

For India, two primary LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery options are anticipated:

  • 51 kWh — WLTP range around 350 km
  • 64 kWh — WLTP range up to 450 km

On the global front, MG has introduced a 70 kWh semi-solid-state battery (in the Anxin Edition) offering a CLTC-rated range of 537 km, slated to be globally available by September 2025. However, this advanced battery tech may not make its way to India immediately.

Charge times for India-spec models include:

  • 150 kW DC fast charging – from 30% to 80% in around 39 minutes
  • 50 kW charging – fuller recharge in about 60 minutes for the 64 kWh pack

Performance & Dynamics

Powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing around 161–163 hp with 250 Nm torque, the MG4 EV achieves a top speed of approximately 160 km/h. Its rear-wheel-drive setup and balanced platform layout deliver dynamic and engaging driving characteristics.

Interior & Tech Features

Expect a tech-forward interior featuring:

  • 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (possibly larger screens on higher trims)
  • Digital instrument cluster
  • Connected-car capabilities and over-the-air (OTA) updates
  • Other comforts may include wireless charging, heated seats, and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality

Safety & Driver Assistance

MG is equipping the MG4 EV with modern safety and ADAS features such as:

  • ADAS suite with features like AEB, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and more
  • 360° camera systems and multiple airbags for improved safety and maneuverability

Market Position & Rivals

If launched as expected, the MG4 EV will occupy a niche between premium hatchbacks and more affordable models. It is anticipated to rival vehicles like the Hyundai Kona Electric, MG ZS EV, and premium offerings like the Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6—especially if priced around ₹30 lakh.

Final Thoughts

The MG4 EV promises to redefine India’s electric hatchback category with its larger dimensions, sporty design, advanced battery options, and rich feature set. With the anticipated late 2025 introduction and a ₹30 lakh price point, it offers a compelling blend of performance, style, and technology. While the semi-solid-state battery is an exciting global development, Indian buyers should expect strong performance from the standard LFP variants initially. The MG4 EV is shaping up to be a bold, premium addition to India’s EV landscape—one worth watching!
