In a major relief for electric vehicle (EV) buyers, the Long wait for EV subsidies ends in Prayagraj as the Transport Department has officially started releasing long-pending subsidy payments. After months of uncertainty, over 700 eligible beneficiaries in the district are finally receiving their dues directly in their bank accounts.
This development comes after the state government released the required budget allocation, clearing a backlog of nearly ₹1.90 crore.
Why Were the Subsidies Delayed?
The delay began in November when a new subsidy processing system was introduced. While intended to improve transparency, the transition led to procedural bottlenecks. Several dealers failed to upload and verify necessary documents on time, causing applications to remain pending.

As a result, hundreds of EV buyers had to make repeated visits to dealerships and the Regional Transport Office (RTO), seeking updates on their applications. The situation created frustration among vehicle owners who had already invested in environmentally friendly mobility options.
Now, with the revised mechanism in place, the Long wait for EV subsidies ends, and the process has become more structured and time-bound.
Streamlined Verification and Faster Disbursal
Under the improved system, subsidy applications are processed through a dedicated EV subsidy portal. Here’s how the revised process works:
- Dealers verify vehicle purchase details and upload required documents online.
- The ARTO (Administration) conducts final scrutiny and approval.
- The Divisional Inspector (Technical) and ARTO jointly oversee the verification.
- Verification is targeted within 7 days.
- Subsidy amounts are credited within 15 days after approval.
ARTO (Administration) Rajeev Chaturvedi confirmed that special instructions have been issued to officials to ensure quick verification and timely fund transfers. With these measures in place, the Long wait for EV subsidies ends for hundreds of buyers in the city.
Subsidy Benefits Under UP EV Policy
Under the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy, buyers are eligible for a subsidy of 15% on the ex-factory price, subject to the following caps:
- Electric Two-Wheelers: Up to ₹5,000
- Electric Three-Wheelers: Up to ₹12,000
- Electric Four-Wheelers: Up to ₹1,00,000
Officials believe that timely disbursal will boost confidence among consumers and encourage more residents to adopt clean and sustainable transportation.
How to Check Your Subsidy Status?
Applicants in Prayagraj can track their subsidy status online by entering their Application Number or Vehicle Number along with the last five digits of the chassis number. It is important to ensure that bank details and signatures match the records submitted during registration to avoid further delays.
With payments now being credited directly to beneficiaries’ accounts, the Long wait for EV subsidies ends, bringing renewed trust and momentum to the EV ecosystem in Prayagraj.
