Google has taken a major leap in electric vehicle navigation with its latest update for Android Auto. With Google Maps adds EV routing, battery predictions, and trip planning, the experience of driving long distances in an electric vehicle is set to become smoother, smarter, and far more reliable. This new rollout brings AI-powered EV charging and battery prediction features to more than 350 EV models across 16 major auto brands in the United States.

Smarter Navigation With AI Battery Predictions

One of the biggest challenges for EV drivers is estimating how much battery will remain at the end of a trip. The new update solves this by using advanced AI and energy modeling. These systems analyze key vehicle data — such as battery size, weight, and efficiency — and combine it with real-time Google Maps information like weather conditions, traffic patterns, and road elevation.

This intelligent integration ensures highly accurate predictions of battery usage, helping reduce range anxiety. As Google Maps adds EV routing, battery predictions, and trip planning, drivers can rely on navigation that automatically adjusts to real-world driving conditions.

Smart Charging Recommendations and Dynamic ETA

Another standout capability is the smart charging planning. Once you enter your destination and input your current battery level, Google Maps will automatically recommend the best charging stops along your route. It even provides the estimated battery percentage upon arrival at each waypoint.

Your Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) also updates automatically to include charging time, giving you a realistic view of your full journey. Drivers can even choose their desired battery level upon reaching the destination, and Maps will adjust charging stops accordingly. With this, Google Maps adds EV routing, battery predictions, and trip planning in the most practical and user-focused way.

Supported Brands and Rollout

The update is currently live in the U.S. and supports EVs from major manufacturers, including:

  • Luxury & Performance: Audi, BMW, Genesis, Jaguar, Lexus, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche
  • Mass Market: Chevrolet, FIAT, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen

Quick Setup Guide for EV Drivers

Setting up the feature is simple:

  1. Update Google Maps to version 25.44 or newer.
  2. Go to Profile > Settings > Your vehicles and enter your EV’s model, make, and year.
  3. Select your plug type (NACS, CCS, etc.) for compatible charging stops.
  4. Before starting a trip in Android Auto, manually enter your current battery percentage.

With this major update, Google Maps adds EV routing, battery predictions, and trip planning to make EV travel easier, safer, and more efficient than ever.
