Navi Mumbai is taking a major step toward strengthening its electric mobility ecosystem with the launch of Eight New EV Charging Stations Set to Open Across Navi Mumbai. Developed by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), this initiative marks the first phase of a much larger plan to expand EV charging access citywide.
48 Charging Points in Phase One
The new stations—four in Zone 1 and four in Zone 2—will collectively offer 48 charging points, supporting two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers. Equipped with both fast and slow charging options, the facilities are designed to serve a wide range of EV users. Notably, the station in Nerul features two 30kW CCS2 fast chargers, enhancing convenience for electric car owners.
All eight locations will operate 24/7 and will offer pre-booking options through a dedicated mobile application, ensuring seamless access for daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike.
Part of a 143-Point Citywide Charging Network
This launch is only the beginning. NMMC’s broader vision aims for 143 charging points across the city. The civic body divided Navi Mumbai into 24 grids, each measuring one square kilometer, to ensure efficient placement of charging infrastructure. Initially, each grid was planned for six stations, but due to space constraints, the final structure includes five per grid.
Before selecting the first eight spots, the corporation studied high-traffic areas such as malls, public offices, bus stops, parks, event halls, and the NMMC headquarters to identify the most strategic and accessible locations.

Public-Private Partnership for Faster Implementation
The charging stations are being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by a consortium including Kay Bee Batteries, Road Grid India, and Delta Electronics. These private partners will fund and develop the stations, while NMMC will earn ₹4 per kilowatt-hour from charging operations. Additionally, a ₹2 crore grant from the 15th Finance Commission will support the city’s clean air initiatives linked to the project.
Additional Facilities for Public Convenience
To enhance user experience, the corporation is allowing free space for display boards, lighting, and informational signage. Subject to approval, partners may also set up mini counters for water and packaged snacks, making the sites more user-friendly.
Navi Mumbai’s strategic EV infrastructure expansion not only supports the city’s growing electric vehicle adoption but also aligns with India’s national goal of achieving 30% EV penetration by 2030. With accessible, reliable, and well-planned charging solutions, the city is gearing up for a cleaner, greener transportation future.
