BEML’s latest electric vehicle is targeting one of the toughest segments of commercial mobility: heavy-duty mining and infrastructure operations. On September 30, 2026, the company unveiled its indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck at its Mysuru Complex. BEML unveils the BH60-EV Electric Truck as a major step toward cleaner, more efficient industrial transportation, combining a massive battery, High Payload Capacity, and zero tailpipe emissions.
The new truck is designed to replace diesel-dependent machinery while cutting operating costs by an estimated 40% to 60%. It also comes with scalable charging infrastructure, strengthening BEML’s broader push into heavy industrial vehicle electrification.
The BEML BH60-EV is India’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric heavy-duty dump truck. It offers a 54,500-kg payload, a 1,000 kWh lithium-ion battery, and zero tailpipe emissions, while potentially reducing operating costs by 40% to 60% compared with diesel machinery.

India’s First Indigenous 60-Ton Electric Dump Truck
BEML Unveils BH60-EV Electric Truck as part of its expanding portfolio of electric heavy industrial vehicles. Developed at the company’s Mysuru facility, the BH60-EV is engineered for demanding mining and infrastructure applications where high payload capacity, durability, and continuous operation are critical.
The electric dump truck uses a 36.4-cubic-meter rock body and can carry a payload of 54,500 kg. Its powertrain combines a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with a rugged gearbox designed for heavy-duty operations.
1,000 kWh Battery Powers Heavy-Duty Operations
At the heart of the BH60-EV is a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. Unlike conventional diesel-powered dump trucks, the electric vehicle produces zero tailpipe emissions, supporting cleaner mining and infrastructure operations.
BEML estimates that each vehicle could eliminate approximately 130 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. This gives the truck potential relevance for industrial operators seeking to reduce emissions and align their fleets with sustainability and ESG objectives.
Key BH60-EV Highlights
- Payload: 54,500 kg
- Rock body: 36.4 cubic meters
- Battery: 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion
- Motor: Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor
- Tailpipe emissions: Zero
- Estimated CO₂ reduction: 130 tonnes annually per vehicle
- Operating-cost reduction: 40%–60% versus diesel machinery
Up to 60% Lower Operating Costs
One of the most significant aspects of BEML unveiling the BH60-EV Electric Truck is its potential impact on operating economics. BEML estimates that the electric dump truck can deliver 40% to 60% lower operating costs than conventional diesel-powered equipment.
For mining and infrastructure companies operating heavy machinery at scale, lower energy and operating expenses could make fleet electrification an important consideration alongside emissions reduction.
Safety and Charging Infrastructure
The BH60-EV also focuses on operator protection. Its ergonomic cabin incorporates a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS), emergency steering, and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes.
BEML is additionally offering turnkey charging solutions with compatible and scalable charging infrastructure. The system is designed to integrate with existing electrical grids at industrial sites, addressing an important requirement for large-scale electric mining equipment.
BEML Expands Its Electric Heavy Equipment Portfolio
The launch follows BEML’s introduction of a 35-ton electric dump truck on April 10, 2026. The progression from a 35-ton model to the 60-ton BH60-EV signals the company’s broader move from diesel-dependent heavy machinery toward indigenous electric industrial technology.
BEML’s consolidated order book stood at ₹16,284 crore as of June 30, 2026, supported by robust order inflows. Against this backdrop, the BH60-EV expands the company’s technology portfolio into zero-emission heavy-duty applications.
What the BH60-EV Means for Green Mining
BEML unveils the BH60-EV Electric Truck at a time when mining and infrastructure operators are increasingly exploring cleaner and more efficient equipment. With its high payload, 1,000 kWh battery, zero tailpipe emissions, charging ecosystem, and projected operating-cost savings, the BH60-EV represents a significant development in India’s heavy industrial EV landscape.
