Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Sales Surge 40% in Q2 FY27 as EV Sales Jump 90%

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. has posted its highest-ever quarterly sales in Q2 FY27, delivering 201,723 units across domestic and international markets. The company’s performance comes as passenger vehicle demand maintained momentum after GST 2.0, while greener powertrains gained traction. Tata Motors EV Sales Jumped 90% in Q2 FY27 to 47,150 units, while total passenger vehicle sales climbed 40% year-on-year to 144,397 units in Q2 FY26.

EVs accounted for 23% of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles’ portfolio during the quarter, significantly above the company’s cited industry penetration of around 8%. With CNG contributing another 28%, greener powertrains represented 51% of quarterly sales.

Tata Motors Q2 FY27 Sales Reach 201,723 Units

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles recorded 201,723 units across domestic and international markets in Q2 FY27, compared with 144,397 units in the corresponding quarter of FY26.

That represents a 40% year-on-year increase, making Q2 FY27 the company’s highest-ever quarter, according to Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles.

The company also finished September on a strong note, crossing the 70,000-unit monthly sales milestone.

The official sales statement shows that domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 196,674 units for Q2 FY27, while international business sales contributed 5,049 units.

Tata Motors EV Sales Jump 90% in Q2 FY27

Electric vehicles were one of the biggest growth drivers during the quarter.

Tata Motors recorded 47,150 EV sales across domestic and international markets in Q2 FY27, compared with 24,855 units in Q2 FY26. This represents a substantial 90% year-on-year increase.

The company said its EVs hit a quarterly sales high, with EV penetration rising to 23% of its portfolio, compared with around 8% for the industry.

EV and CNG Together Contribute 51%

Tata Motors’ greener powertrain portfolio extended beyond electric vehicles in Q2 FY27.

According to the company, CNG vehicles also achieved their highest-ever quarterly sales, accounting for 28% of total volumes.

When combined with EVs, greener powertrains accounted for 51% of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles’ sales during the quarter.

This means more than half of the company’s quarterly sales came from EV and CNG powertrains, highlighting the growing role of alternative powertrains within its passenger vehicle portfolio.

GST 2.0 Supports Passenger Vehicle Demand

Tata Motors said passenger vehicle demand sustained the momentum seen after GST 2.0, despite Q2 traditionally being a softer period.

The company cited industry Vahan volumes growing by around 24% year-on-year, with increasing adoption of greener powertrains contributing to the broader market trend.

Tata Motors therefore enters the festive season against a backdrop of strong industry demand and increasing consumer interest in greener mobility.

Punch Leads SUV Sales

Tata Motors also highlighted strong customer response across its wider passenger vehicle portfolio.

The Punch emerged as India’s highest-selling SUV during the quarter, according to the company.

The automaker further expanded its portfolio following its Q1 launches, introducing or strengthening products including:

  • Curvv Series X
  • Sierra Legend Series
  • All-new Tata Aeris

These additions come as Tata Motors seeks to build momentum across different passenger vehicle segments.

Alongside its product expansion, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles unveiled a new customer-facing identity, TATA.CARS.

The company said the identity reflects the evolution of its brand alongside the changing aspirations of Indian car buyers.

The company is entering the upcoming festive period with optimism, citing a strong order book and healthy customer traction across its portfolio.
