HackersEra has announced a cybersecurity collaboration with Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) for the recently launched Sierra EV, strengthening the premium electric SUV’s readiness for India’s AIS-189 vehicle type approval requirements. The partnership focuses on comprehensive testing, risk mitigation, and supplier-level security controls as connected and software-defined vehicles become increasingly important in India.
The Sierra EV AIS-189 Cybersecurity programme is designed to ensure that the electric SUV’s connected architecture meets mandatory automotive cybersecurity requirements while maintaining vehicle performance, reliability, and safety.
Vehicle and ECU-Level Cybersecurity Testing
As part of the project, HackersEra conducted extensive cybersecurity testing at both complete-vehicle and individual ECU levels. The company also worked with Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers to identify security gaps, coordinate mitigation measures, and maintain consistent cybersecurity controls across the supply chain.

Structured risk treatment and validation testing were used to verify that identified vulnerabilities were addressed through suitable technical and process controls. This work positions Sierra EV AIS-189 Cybersecurity readiness as an important step toward vehicle type approval in India.
The programme covers key areas including EV cybersecurity, vehicle cybersecurity, connected EV cybersecurity, automotive cybersecurity compliance, and software-defined vehicle security.
Tata Motors Puts Cybersecurity at the Core
TMPV CTO Sven Patuschka said trust is becoming increasingly important as connected and software-defined vehicles gain adoption. He emphasised that cybersecurity must be treated as a core engineering responsibility and embedded throughout vehicle development.
The collaboration therefore goes beyond conventional penetration testing, strengthening security across the vehicle lifecycle and supporting Tata Motors EV cybersecurity objectives.
