53 EV Charging Stations Bound in Himachal Pradesh, India: Himachal Pradesh is set to take a major leap in electric mobility with the approval of a proposal to install 53 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state. Submitted by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), this project aims to support the operation of 237 new electric buses, marking a significant step toward building a robust EV ecosystem in the state.
Funding and Support
The ambitious project has been backed with a ₹20 million budget from the state government, while the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will provide additional financial assistance of ₹110.95 million. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri emphasized the state’s commitment to sustainable transport, ensuring that the project receives full governmental support.
Phased Rollout for Efficient Execution
To ensure smooth implementation, the project will be executed in two phases. This approach allows all civil and electrical works to be completed before the arrival of the first fleet of electric buses. Key Locations for Charging Stations
Initially, 34 strategic locations have been selected to host the new charging infrastructure. These include major towns, bus depots, and electric bus stations such as:

- Dharamshala, Palampur, Baijnath
- Hamirpur, Nadaun Bus Stand, and the new Electric Depot Nadaun
- Una, Bangana, Amb, Bilaspur, Ghumarwin, Sundernagar, Jogindernagar
- Mandi, Arki, Parwanoo, Nalagarh, Nahan, Paonta Sahib, Shree Renukaji
- Kullu, Manali, Chamba, Bharmour
- Dalhousie, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Reckong Peo, Keylong
Before finalization, 90 potential sites were surveyed to identify the most suitable locations for optimal accessibility and efficiency.
Infrastructure Development
The project involves two main aspects of development:
- Electrical Works: The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) will handle the installation of the necessary electrical transformers for the charging stations.
- Civil Works: The Himachal Pradesh Bus Stands Management & Development Authority (HP BSM&DA) will oversee construction and other civil-related tasks, ensuring the stations are ready for public and HRTC use.
Himachal Pradesh’s EV Vision
This project is part of a larger green mobility strategy by the state government. Key initiatives under this plan include:
- Green Corridors: Six highways in the state have been designated as green corridors, with EV chargers actively being installed along these routes.
- Widespread Infrastructure: Earlier in 2025, approval was given to set up EV charging stations at 402 government-owned locations, including rest houses and offices.
- Public-Private Partnerships: The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has partnered with Indian Oil to install chargers at 65 hotels, adding to 44 existing stations at private hotels.
- Expanded EV Fleet: To complement the infrastructure, HRTC has ordered nearly 300 electric buses from Olectra Greentech in 2025, aiming for a greener public transport system.
