India’s clean energy transition is entering a new phase as OMC Power Partners with Honda to unlock the potential of second-life EV batteries. In a strategic move that blends sustainability with innovation, OMC Power has officially stepped into the electric vehicle (EV) battery repurposing sector through a collaboration with Honda Motor Co., Ltd.. The partnership aims to convert retired EV batteries into reliable stationary energy storage systems, supporting renewable energy adoption across India.
A Strategic Step into Circular Energy
OMC Power, already active in rooftop solarisation, EPC services, telecom infrastructure greening, and mini-grid development, sees battery repurposing as a natural extension of its clean energy portfolio. According to co-founder and CEO Rohit Chandra, repurposing EV batteries is a relatively new application area in India, and this initiative positions the company as an early mover in the space.

The collaboration gained momentum after Honda acquired a minority stake in OMC Power in October 2025, strengthening long-term strategic alignment. Through this initiative, OMC partners with Honda to give EV batteries a productive “second life,” extending their usability beyond automotive applications.
From Mobility to Stationary Power
At the core of the project are Honda’s Mobile Power Pack e: batteries, originally used in electric two- and three-wheelers. Typically retired after around three years of vehicle usage, these batteries still retain substantial storage capacity. Instead of recycling them immediately, they will now be repurposed for approximately seven additional years in stationary applications.
Assembly of these systems is underway at OMC Power’s facility in Manesar, Haryana. The repurposed batteries will primarily support:
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems for residential and commercial users
- Hybrid rooftop solar installations
- Telecom infrastructure and rural smart grids
By integrating these second-life batteries into renewable energy systems, OMC Power Partners with Honda to reduce waste while strengthening distributed energy networks.
Commercial Rollout and Early Success
The partnership has already moved from concept to commercialization. In January 2026, OMC Power launched a leasing business for UPS devices powered by repurposed EV batteries. Early pilot projects have shown promising results, including a rooftop solar installation at a school in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, which has successfully transitioned from pilot to scale deployment.
Honda’s projected annual production of nearly 6 million EV batteries creates a substantial future supply pipeline for repurposing. This ensures long-term scalability for the initiative.
Powering India’s Renewable Future
With a ₹4,000 crore investment plan and a goal to build a 1 GWp renewable energy portfolio by 2030, OMC Power is aligning growth with sustainability. As OMC Power Partners with Honda, the collaboration not only advances India’s circular battery economy but also strengthens energy resilience across urban and rural markets.
This initiative marks a decisive step toward maximizing EV battery lifecycle value while accelerating the nation’s clean energy ambitions.
