Hinduja Group invests ₹7500 cr: In a momentous announcement on September 6, 2025, during his UK visit, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin revealed that the Hinduja Group is set to invest a staggering ₹7,500 crore in the state’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, with a primary focus on battery storage systems. This initiative will create over 1,000 skilled jobs, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s status as a leader in India’s green mobility transition.

TN Rising: A Global Investment Push

This investment by the Hinduja Group forms part of the wider “TN Rising” campaign, an international investment outreach covering both the UK and Germany, which has netted a total of ₹15,516 crore in proposals, expected to generate 17,613 job opportunities for the youth of Tamil Nadu.

Six Strategic Wins in London

During his London sojourn, CM Stalin brokered six strategic MoUs:

  • Wilson Power (₹300 crore)
  • Britannia RFID (₹520 crore)
  • University of Exeter
  • Ecole Intuit Lab (France)
  • Lloyd’s List Intelligence
  • Rolls-Royce

He described these as “six strategic wins,” noting the boost to renewable energy, export competitiveness, youth empowerment through skill development, maritime infrastructure, and aerospace-defence manufacturing synergy.

Key Highlights of the Announcement:

  • Other EV Commitments: The Hinduja Group’s pledge joins a series of recent EV-related projects in Tamil Nadu. Notably, in April 2024, Vietnam’s VinFast commenced work on a new EV factory in Thoothukudi with an initial investment of ₹4,000 crore, further cementing the state’s position as India’s EV hub.
  • Part of TN Rising Initiative: The Hinduja Group’s ₹7,500 crore commitment was unveiled during the “TN Rising” investment drive in the UK and Germany. This global outreach secured a total of ₹15,516 crore in investments for Tamil Nadu, expected to generate more than 17,000 jobs.
  • Investment Scope: The fresh investment will be directed towards developing battery storage systems, a crucial element in the EV supply chain and essential for sustainable mobility.
  • Strategic Expansion: Through its flagship company, Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group has already demonstrated its strong interest in EV and battery manufacturing. Earlier in September 2025, Ashok Leyland entered into a long-term partnership with China’s CALB Group and announced plans to invest over ₹5,000 crore in battery localization. This new investment builds on those efforts, marking a major expansion of the group’s role in Tamil Nadu’s EV ecosystem.
  • Government Backing: The announcement, made by CM M.K. Stalin from London, was presented as a milestone under the Dravidian Model of governance, showcasing the state’s proactive support for sustainable industrial growth.

Why This Matters?

  1. EV Ecosystem Expansion – The ₹7,500 crore investment directly strengthens battery infrastructure, a critical component of EV mobility.
  2. Widespread Growth – The TN Rising investments are catalytic, ranging across infrastructure, renewable energy, technology, and talent.
  3. Jobs for Tomorrow – With nearly 18,000 jobs projected, these investments promise meaningful employment across sectors.
  4. Global Confidence – Reinvestments and new agreements with global majors like Rolls-Royce, Britannia, and the University of Exeter reflect strong investor faith in Tamil Nadu’s capabilities.
  5. Policy-Driven Momentum – This leap is fuelled by a supportive policy environment, especially Tamil Nadu’s forward-looking EV incentives and infrastructure development strategy.

Closing Thought

With the Hinduja Group’s ₹7,500 crore investment anchoring the EV strategy, and the broader TN Rising campaign pulling in ₹15,516 crore, Tamil Nadu is not just signing deals—it’s crafting futures. Each MoU, job opportunity, and battery plant stands as a testament to the state’s ambition to steer India’s green transition. Whether it’s electrifying roads, energizing industries, or empowering youth, the path ahead is bright—and it’s powered by Tamil Nadu.
