A heavily camouflaged electric SUV, believed to be the Chery iCar V23-based EV, has been spotted testing on Indian roads, sparking fresh excitement in the growing EV segment. With JSW Motors already tied up with the Chinese automaker Chery, this new model could make its India debut after the launch of the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid SUV, whose timeline has reportedly been delayed beyond the second half of 2026.
If introduced in India, the Chery iCar V23-based EV is expected to be positioned above the MG Windsor EV, potentially carrying a price tag higher than Rs 14 lakh–18.50 lakh.
Bold, Rugged Exterior Design
The Chery iCar V23-based EV stands out with its boxy silhouette and tall stance, complemented by a ground clearance of around 205–210mm. The China-spec version measures 4,220mm in length, 1,915mm in width and 1,845mm in height, with a 2,735mm wheelbase. Its off-road credentials are highlighted by impressive approach and departure angles of 43 degrees and 41 degrees, respectively.

At the front, circular headlamps are connected by a sealed-off grille section, while the bumper styling draws inspiration from rugged SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler. The profile features pull-type door handles instead of flush units, a noticeable absence of rear quarter glass, and optional 19-inch or 21-inch alloy wheels. A practical side step enhances ease of entry and exit.
At the rear, instead of a conventional spare wheel, the SUV gets a boxy external storage compartment mounted on the side-hinged tailgate—similar in concept to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric sold internationally.
Premium Interior and Features
Inside, the cabin sports an all-black theme with contrasting yellow accents on the air vents and door pockets. A large 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage, offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Physical controls for climate and audio functions add practicality.
The SUV features powered and ventilated front seats that can recline flat for enhanced rear-seat comfort. The rear seats split 50:50 and fold to expand luggage space. Additional features include drive modes, a 7-speaker audio system, three USB ports, and a PM2.5 air filter. However, a dedicated driver’s display is notably absent.
Safety and Technology
Safety equipment is comprehensive, including ADAS, a 540-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, four-wheel disc brakes, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold.
Battery, Performance and Range
Globally, the Chery iCar V23-based EV is offered with two powertrain options. The rear-wheel-drive version produces 136hp and 180 N · m, paired with a 59.93kWh battery delivering a CLTC range of 401km. The all-wheel-drive variant generates 211hp and 292 N · m, using a larger 81.76kWh battery with a maximum claimed range of 510km (CLTC).
Performance figures are respectable, with 0–100kph times of 11 seconds (RWD) and 7.5 seconds (AWD), while top speed is rated at 140kph. Depending on the battery pack, DC fast charging support ranges from 85kW to 104kW.
With rugged styling, capable powertrains and modern features, the Chery iCar V23-based EV could become a compelling new entrant in India’s expanding electric SUV market.
