In a major move to simplify electric vehicle (EV) charging, BMW Canada integrates Tesla SC and Shell Recharge into its ecosystem, offering drivers a more seamless and unified experience. The initiative is aimed at reducing charging complexity while expanding access to a vast network of public chargers across Canada and the United States.

Shell Recharge Integration: One App, Multiple Networks

A key highlight of this update is the integration of Shell Recharge into the My BMW and MINI apps. This allows users to locate, start, stop, and pay for charging sessions through a single platform. Shell Recharge is not limited to Shell-owned stations—it aggregates several major charging providers such as FLO, ChargePoint, Circuit électrique, BC Hydro, and EV Connect Canada.

With this integration, BMW EV owners can now plan routes more efficiently, incorporating charging stops directly into their journeys. The system also supports cross-border charging in the United States, making long-distance travel more convenient.

Tesla Supercharger Access Gets a Boost

Another significant development is that BMW Canada integrates Tesla Superchargers and Shell Recharge to deliver broader access to fast-charging infrastructure. Compatible Tesla Superchargers are now being added to the Shell Recharge network, creating a more unified and accessible charging ecosystem.

Additionally, BMW drivers will see Tesla Supercharger locations appear directly in their vehicle dashboards and mobile apps. This ensures that finding and navigating to charging stations is easier than ever.

NACS Compatibility

BMW is also accelerating the adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS). Existing BMW and MINI EVs equipped with CCS ports can already access Tesla Superchargers using approved adapters like the Lectron Vortex Plus.

Looking ahead, BMW Canada integrates Tesla Superchargers and Shell Recharge alongside plans to introduce factory-installed NACS ports in new models starting in 2026. Upcoming EVs, including the iX3 and i3, will feature native compatibility, eliminating the need for adapters.

Software Updates to Enable Wider Access

BMW has confirmed that most current EV models will receive remote software upgrades (RSU) to enable NACS compatibility. These updates will roll out gradually, with notifications sent through the app and vehicle interface. However, older models like the original BMW i3 (I01) and MINI Cooper SE (F56) will not be included.

Simplifying EV Ownership

With this comprehensive upgrade, BMW Canada integrates Tesla Superchargers and Shell Recharge to create a more accessible, transparent, and user-friendly charging experience. By unifying multiple charging networks and expanding compatibility with Tesla’s infrastructure, BMW is taking a significant step toward making EV ownership easier and more practical for Canadian drivers.
