Western Australia has taken a major leap in clean mobility with the launch of the state’s fastest EV charging station along the busy South Western Highway. Located in Bridgetown—around 270 kilometers south of Perth—the newly unveiled facility brings a new level of speed, sustainability, and convenience to EV travelers in the South West region.

A Milestone for EV Infrastructure

The new charging site is the first in Western Australia to feature ultra-fast 300-kilowatt (kW) chargers, making it the state’s fastest EV charging station to date. Delivered through a partnership between the Bridgetown Greenbushes Tourism Association (BGTA), the Shire of Bridgetown–Greenbushes, Talison Lithium, and support from the state government, this project represents a significant infrastructure milestone.

The site includes a ChargePost-branded charger equipped with two dedicated 300 kW bays, enabling most electric vehicles to charge from low to full in under 20 minutes. This ultra-fast capability is expected to reduce travel time and minimize range anxiety for commuters and holiday-goers.

Powered by 100% Solar with Battery Backup

One of the standout features of the new station is its commitment to sustainability. It is fully powered by 100% solar energy, supported by an advanced battery storage system that ensures seamless 24/7 operation. This combination guarantees reliable EV charging even during cloudy weather, nighttime hours, or grid instabilities. The integration of renewable energy also strengthens Western Australia’s push toward cleaner and greener transportation solutions.

Boosting Tourism & Local Business

Community leaders believe that the presence of the state’s fastest EV charging station will have a positive ripple effect on Bridgetown’s local economy. BGTA vice president Phil Beach described the launch as “a milestone not just for Bridgetown, but for the entire South West region,” highlighting the town’s leadership in sustainability and tourism development.

Travelers who stop to charge will have more time to explore Bridgetown’s attractions, shops, cafés, and the newly redeveloped community precinct that hosts groups such as Puzzletown6255, Landcare, and the renowned Blues at Bridgetown music festival.

Councillor Stephen Carstairs added that the solar-powered, ultra-fast charger encourages cleaner transport choices while giving visitors more opportunities to spend time in the town.

Strengthening WA’s EV Travel Network

Strategically positioned on a major holiday route, the state’s fastest EV charging station enhances long-distance travel between Perth and the South West region. With its sustainable power system, ultra-fast charging capacity, and community-driven development, Bridgetown has set a new benchmark for EV infrastructure in the state.
