In a landmark move for India’s electric mobility space, Maruti Suzuki launches its first EV, the much-anticipated e-Vitara SUV, officially entering the country’s fast-growing EV segment. The announcement on February 17, 2026, was well received by the market, with the company’s shares rising over 1% to an intraday high of around ₹15,211. With competitive pricing and an innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, the automaker aims to make electric ownership more accessible than ever.

Introductory Pricing & Battery-as-a-Service Model

As Maruti Suzuki launches its first EV, it introduces the e-Vitara at an attractive introductory price of ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 49kWh base variant under the Battery-as-a-Service model. Instead of purchasing the battery outright, customers can opt for a rental plan priced at ₹3.99 per kilometre, significantly reducing upfront costs.

Bookings are now open at NEXA showrooms and online with a token amount of just ₹21,000, making the transition to electric mobility easier for buyers.

Performance, Battery & Engineering Excellence

The e-Vitara comes with two battery options:

  • 49kWh Battery – Claimed ARAI range of 440 km
  • 61kWh Battery – Claimed ARAI range of 543 km

The SUV features a high-capacity battery pack with 120 lithium-ion cells, designed to perform reliably in extreme temperatures ranging from -30°C to 60°C. Built on a robust platform using over 50% high-tensile steel, the SUV offers excellent structural rigidity.

With a long wheelbase of 2700mm, short overhangs, and a tight turning radius of 5.2 meters, the e Vitara ensures superior manoeuvrability and urban practicality.

Advanced Technology & Safety Features

As Maruti Suzuki launches its first EV, it ensures that premium technology and safety are at the forefront. The SUV is equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Adaptive High Beam
  • Blind Spot Monitoring

Additional highlights include a 10.1-inch infotainment system, 360-degree camera, and seven airbags. The vehicle has also achieved a 5-star safety rating from BNCAP, reinforcing its strong safety credentials.

Ownership Benefits & Warranty

The company offers an 8-year battery warranty and a 3-year vehicle warranty, extendable up to 5 years. As part of the introductory offer valid until March 31, 2026, customers receive a complimentary home charger and installation worth ₹50,000, along with free charging for one year (capped at 1,000 kWh).

Global Collaboration & Market Expansion

Developed under Suzuki Motor’s global partnership with Toyota, the e-Vitara has been manufactured in India since August last year. In 2025 alone, 13,000 units were exported to 28 countries, highlighting its global appeal.

With this strategic step, Maruti Suzuki launches its first EV not just as a product debut, but as a bold commitment to shaping India’s electric future.
