M&M targets 7000 EV sales a month by the end of the current fiscal year, reflecting the company’s ambitious push into the electric vehicle (EV) segment. Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO for Mahindra & Mahindra’s auto and farm sectors, shared that the automaker is scaling up operations to achieve this milestone and envisions EVs contributing 20–25% of its overall SUV portfolio by 2027–28.

Currently, Mahindra sells between 4,000 and 5,000 electric SUVs monthly. To meet the new target, the company is ramping up its production capacity to 8,000 units per month by March 2026, ensuring sufficient inventory for its expanding customer base. Over the past seven months leading to November 2025, Mahindra has sold over 30,000 EVs, including the BE 6 and XEV 9 models, generating approximately ₹8,000 crore in revenue.

A key driver of this growth is the recent launch of the seven-seater XEV 9S, which adds to Mahindra’s growing EV portfolio. Jejurikar highlighted that the company is enhancing its retail and service footprint in parallel, increasing service capacity by 15–20% annually through new centers and digital productivity improvements. This expansion ensures that rising EV sales are supported by robust after-sales infrastructure.

Mahindra’s EV strategy also emphasizes sustainability and long-term planning. The company is developing an end-of-life roadmap for EV batteries and is actively working to mitigate supply chain challenges to de-risk operations. Additionally, all trims of the XEV 9S qualify under the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, validating local value addition across multiple tiers of the supply chain. The BE 6 model is set to follow with a PLI application in the coming quarter.

On the export front, Mahindra plans a phased approach, initially targeting right-hand drive markets and then assessing left-hand drive markets based on response. This measured strategy ensures steady international expansion without overstretching resources.

Jejurikar emphasized customer choice with the XEV 9S, clarifying that the seven-seater is aimed at buyers specifically seeking larger EVs, without concerns about overlapping with the XEV 9E five-seater. He expects strong demand from northern markets such as Delhi and Punjab, while continuing to sell EVs alongside ICE vehicles in showrooms for seamless comparison.

With aggressive production targets, new model launches, and enhanced service infrastructure, Mahindra & Mahindra is positioning itself as a key player in India’s EV revolution, paving the way for a future where electric SUVs become a mainstream choice.
